Marmol is younger than 7 players from our 2021 roster

I have no idea what to think.

What still confuses me is this move toward analytics was happening 10 years ago. The meaning of that changes of course, but Shildt was hired 3 years ago. Did that conversation or this consideration of analytics not happen?

Also, embracing analytics doesn’t just mean the manager does what you want all the time. Unless that’s the agreement, as BAS was referring to with Roberts and the Dodgers. My thought then is why have a manager position at all? Blend the manager and GM positions together and do whatever the braintrust wants. I’m not saying that can’t work but I’m sort of unclear what position we’re really hiring for and what they’re responsible for. Makes it hard to judge whether the move is good or not, on top of the fact that I really know nothing about Marmol.

I think part of the problem was that the hitting coach is very much in tune with the analytical approach that the organization favors, and Schildt struggled to have peace with said hitting coach. That's probably a recent development, and not something that could have been foreseen 3 years ago.

That's jot the entire story, obviously......but it played a part.

It would be hilarious to watch Mo have to manage one of the rosters he assembled tbh.

I have no idea if Marmol will or won’t work, but it still absolutely seems strange that you let Shildt go over philosophical differences and then hire his disciple.

Marmol had a quick ascension and it’s possible he’s been eyed for a long time. He seems to be someone really liked in the clubhouse.

Yeah, I’m not buying the whole “Shildt was against Albert and analytics” talking point. I think Shildt honestly just voiced his opinion about the team not getting legit deadline help, and probably wasn’t exactly convinced he was going to get 2022 help either.
