How To with John Wilson on HBO is fantastic. Do not miss it. Trust me.

Everyone is sleeping on this show. Just sayin'

On your rec, I'm giving it a go. A few thoughts:

-This guy is on the spectrum, right?
-He really captures some amazing things on film, and somehow edits all of the clips of his self-shot videos into a cohesive storyline. How many discrete self-filmed clips comprise a single episode? 300? 500?
I just made it to the "how to cover your furniture" episode in season one and the foreskin stretching device guy. Wow. There's a lot to unpack here. Whole lot of unexpected schlong here.

I read most of the footage is his, but they also hired some additional people with cameras to shoot additional footage. He said the hardest part is categorizing and organizing all the shots.

I think the 2nd season was way more challenging. During Covid it is a lot harder to get people to talk with him.

I hope you dig the show as much as I do. There's nothing else quite like it on TV.

Anyway, have you seen any good movies lately?

I've started watching Southside on HBO Max. It's a black working class comedy set in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood. They actually shoot in Englewood which is cool/surprising considering how rough it can get.

Southside isn't GREAT a show, but it's very solid and easy to watch. It's the most "Chicago" show I've ever seen in my life. You can tell the people that created the show are from here. They get so many details and references right. If you're from Chicago you'll get extra enjoyment out of it.

Well if anything this pandemic has spurred lots of binge watching….the last few have been

Dopesick - highly recommend - great show about the opioid crisis and all the greed and corruption around it

The Pharmacist (documentary) - very good as well - much like Dopesick, only real life accounts

Good Lord Bird - A very interesting take on the abolitionist John Brown; kind of a comedy/historical show on what led up to the uprising at Harpers Ferry prior to the Civil War

There have been a lot more that I just can’t think of, but either my standards have dropped or there is just a lot of good TV out there
