I get that Jordan Walker has the potential to be something truly great, but I feel like Gorman should be the #1 for right now. There's any number of cliches and adages about hoping on the big thing that's further off instead of the more certain thing that's here now. It sure feels like gorman could be a mighty good major league second baseman right now.

Over/under on when we slide Edman to SS and let Gorman rip at 2B?

Super 2 date probably. But the Cards move annoyingly slow on their prospects. Reality is likely mid to late June.

If DeJong keeps playing like he did yesterday. Gorman should be up and DHing. Same with Yepez too.

The depth could spark a trade too.

I think it all depends on how you view it. Gorman is further along so he's the safer bet. Walker has the much higher ceiling.

A big problem is where do these guys play? Walker is 3B and will be ready by late next year or 2024. Arenado is here until 2027. Insanity.

Gorman a forever second baseman in the shift-ban era? They going to put Walker at 1B in post-Goldy era?

On top of making room for Gorman/Walker/etc. Where the hell do guys like Edman and DeJong play?

It *feels* like one of Gorman or Walker is going to be primed for 1B long term.

Someone is surely getting traded, but who?!?!

i’d like to see how good Walker does in AA for the entire season before making a definitive statement. Certainly seems like Gorman is figuring AAA out at the ripe age of not quite 22. If Walker kills AA at age 20, he will have my vote.

If Walker has great hands, I’d love to see him at first base. Derrek Lee and Freddie Freeman are both 6’5. DH is also helpful with all these quality bats.

These things tend to work themselves out. I would assume Gorman will be the long term second baseman and Edman will be moved or just come off the bench eventually to make room for him.

Walker probably won't be a full time regular until 2024, and Goldschmidt will be a free agent in 2025. Walker could DH, and get spot starts at first or the outfield until then.

The Cardinals don't trade big prospects. I just don't see them trading either of them.

He's tearing up AA so far and has good plate discipline. SSS, but I expect his slugging to go way up and his overall wOBA to be one of the best in the Texas League/AA this year.

Would love to see him expedited to AAA at some point this year.

I was thinking someone like Edman/DeJong/and possibly a blue chip like Arenado (in the future not now).

They do trade some big prospects. Marco. Weaver. Kelly (number 2 prospect at one point). Alcantara (ranked higher than Flaherty). Could count Piscotty who was number 1 in 2015, though he had 1.5 season of PAs or so by then.

I meant more recently. They seem to focus mainly on developmenting their own a lot now.
