Cardinals will be drafting high and it would be nice to not lose a pick. This could be an argument for signing Montgomery as well.
Scouts to whom Sherman spoke raved about Yamamoto’s potential in the big leagues, touting a heater that sits mid-90s and reaches the upper-90s, a “plus-plus” (i.e. 70-grade) splitter, a “world class” curveball, a quick delivery to the plate and the athleticism to field his position well. One evaluator speaking to Sherman tabbed him a “full [scouting] grade” (on the 20-80 scale) ahead of right-hander Kodai Senga, who signed a five-year, $75MM deal with the Mets this offseason.

His worst season ERA was 2.35 as an 18 year old.
Sign this guy and Ohtani and be done with it.

The only reason I wouldn't want Snell is because he looks vaguely rat-like and would spoil the extremely handsome St Louis Cardinals team. He's a [expletive] incredible pitcher, though, so I'd quite like that skill on the team. Perhaps he could wear a mask.

Hard pass on Snell for me. Walk rate has always been poor. In his 30’s he’s going to implode.

I could be talked into Nola, who might benefit from a move to Busch.

And I am comfortable trading Gorman in a package for a #1/2. Fully on-board with Donovan/Edman at 2B with Winn at SS.
I keep going back to Cleveland. They desperately need power in their lineup. They turn out quality pitchers like clockwork. There is probably a deal to be made there that includes Gorman, though it may not be an ace we receive in return.

Agree with everything here.

I just don't know what type of player we can expect for Gorman.

I hate to trade Gorman, but sounds like Saggese might be a good backup option there. Or they flip Saggese again as part of a package.

Is this the year the Cardinals sign a player who wasn’t previously a Cardinal to a 9-figure contract?

I don’t know but they’re already in uncharted waters this year as the trading deadline demonstrated. It wouldn’t surprise me if the offseason also plays out differently than what we’ve become accustomed to.

This is the real question. Of all the free agent pitchers available, only one I could see them potentially offering this to is Aaron Nola.

Yamamoto is 5’10” and 169 lbs

The only thing that gives me pause, and that he seems to be all arm when throwing

One benefit: all of the players we traded went to AL teams I have no problem rooting for in the postseason.
