Boom. It's an evergreen type of guy. I'm sure we had ape ancestor Russell Brands and Joseph Smiths littered throughout the savannahs of africa. We certainly had dumb gullible follower ancestors throughout time.

Regarding the kid saver guy, I remember seeing him and his org for the first time and being like, this is a grift. I know they're saving kids so its tough to call BS, but this is a grift, in addition to saving kids from terrible situations. I'm sure when we check in on the kids they saved, there will be some warts about how it was handled and whether or not they got any kind of continuing care or supervision. I had a convo with the head of the Tampa police dept's head of human trafficking investigations and she pretty much echoed my thoughts. What is adultery in a context of bigamy?

You’ve got some Mormons down there, so I’m sure you’re (half) joking. Modern mainstream Mormons no longer practice polygamy. Fundamentalist offshoots do, but they are divorced from the main church. Except that modern mainstream Mormons DO practice polygamy inasmuch as if a man’s wife dies he can be sealed in a temple marriage to another and he’ll have two in Jesus’ True Heaven (Prophet Brigham Young once said no man could get there without three). Obviously, women can’t do this.


That said, Tim Ballard is being very Joseph Smith here. He’s (fraudulently) claiming both justification from the highest levels of the Church, which is to say God, and commitment to the cause of rescuing children from sex slavery to coerce married (and always attractive) women into sex or at least sex-adjacent acts. Remember, these people think he’s John Rambo meets Harriet Tubman riding a bald eagle— tons of undue influence and a huge power dynamic.

Joseph Smith, her prophet, once told a woman that if she didn’t marry him, an angel with a drawn sword would slay him. In Section 132 of the Doctrine and Covenants God told JS’ wife that she would be destroyed if she didn’t let JS have multiple wives. He literally promised eternal salvation to the families of women to marry him. He also would send men away on missions for the church, then marry their wives.

As a believing member these were all anti-Mormon lies that I was existentially afraid of going near. Even the church in the internet age has accepted them as history.

Interesting to see this Mormon moment with Ballard using Godly authority and Jodi Hildebrandt using toxic shame, the two pillars of Mormon control for bad, bad stuff.

Judge rules Alex Jones can’t use bankruptcy protection to avoid paying Sandy Hook families

Jones filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year and more recent financial documents submitted by his attorneys put his personal net worth around $14 million. But Lopez ruled that those protections do not apply over findings of “willful and malicious” conduct.

On his Infowars website, Jones posted a video saying the judge’s ruling will have little practical effect because he is over $1 million in debt personally and has little to pay the Sandy Hook families. He also said he continues to appeal the verdicts.

“It’s all academic. I don’t have a million dollars,” he said. “My company has a few million, but that’s just to pay the bills and my product in the future. So we are literally on empty. So this idea that ... we’re going to take your money away doesn’t exist because the money doesn’t exist. It’s all political.

“At the end of the day, they won’t take my free speech away,” he said. “I’m still going to be on the air one way or another.”

But Jones’ personal spending topped $93,000 in July alone, including thousands of dollars on meals and entertainment, according to his monthly financial reports in the bankruptcy case. The spending stuck a nerve with Sandy Hook families as they have yet to collect any of the money that juries awarded them.

Sandy Hook families won nearly the $1.5 billion in judgments against Jones last year in lawsuits over repeated promotion of a false theory that the school shooting never happened.

The amount of money Jones owes Sandy Hook families could grow even larger. Another lawsuit is pending in Texas, brought by the parents of 6-year-old Noah Pozner, one of the children slain in the attack. A trial date has not yet been set.

Relatives of the victims testified at the trials about being harassed and threatened by Jones’ believers, who sent threats and even confronted the grieving families in person, accusing them of being “crisis actors” whose children never existed.
