Mariners signed RHP Matt Bowman to a minor-league contract.
Jon Heyman reports that the 33-year-old gets $1 million if he reaches the majors, and there are multiple opt-outs available. Bowman was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks, but instead of reporting back to Triple-A Reno after being unclaimed, he used his rights to elect free agency. He’ll report to Triple-A Tacoma instead to provide some relief depth in the Seattle organization. The Mariners will need to add him to the 40-man roster if he was to be promoted to the majors.

Pham is a head case and a hot head. We were in the green seats right next to the dugout in May and I was amazed at his behavior in the dugout and on the field that day. He struck out 3 times and fans were giving him a hard time. It didn't appear he was well liked in the dugout either. Not surprised he averages about 2 teams a year.

White Sox designated RHP Jake Woodford for assignment.
Woodford was hit hard on Thursday as he allowed seven runs in four innings against the Red Sox. That’ll be his last appearance in Chicago for awhile. The club has seven days to trade Woodford or place him on waivers.

Yesterday I was at my kids' swim team end of year awards, and a guy next to me commented on my cards hat. As it turns, he played HS baseball with Mark Petkovsek.

He didn't have any interesting anecdotes. All I could really say was "oh wow, Mark Petkovsek." He is the quintessential "Let's Remember A Guy" guy.

I think my actual words were that anyone who can stick in the bigs for multiple years is pretty badass in my book.
