I'm just gonna shamelessly plug it again, but my best friends' podcast, How to Destroy Everything, is now #3 on spotify and is getting 300,000 downloads a week. It's becoming a hit, and I am OVERJOYED for them. Just great guys, super talented and personable, telling the unbelievable story of Danny's breathtakingly insane father, and what it did to his young life, and the worries it creates now that he's a father himself.
And I'm still probably going to get interviewed still for some future episode.
Any chance you get a spinoff? If I were you it would be something like: Hero Lawyer: The True Story of How One Man Overcame Tremendous Odds to Become the Hero America Deserves AND Needs.
In episode one you unbuckle yourself from the bottom of a black Tahoe deep in enemy territory, take one bullet in the shoulder without flinching, and say something witty as you uppercut a bad guy.
I think this is a great idea, and I can handle licensing the IP. The heyzeus plush dolls, wall calendars, boxer shorts, breakfast cereal, antipersperant, legal pads, and unicycles.
But also, if I make it out of my city council meeting tonight without shots fired, I'll be pretty happy.
Mid pandemic I took a few improv classes. It was fun. Really great people. But it wasn’t really for me. There are a few magic moments. But generally things are just half cooked comedy ideas at best. Just because it wasn’t planned doesn’t make it good enough, as far as I’m concerned—though it seems to be enough for others, which is cool.
The podcasts Tell Me More and now Chris Chatman Do-Over I feel are the perfect practice of improv. Start with the premise and the character planned. And make edits! Granted this is Amy Poehler and Ike Barinholtz and other geniuses who transcend the limitations I described. I wish there was some place for me to play like this (without the editing, naturally). I think a stitch of preparation would go a long way for me and the results.

I've always been a Paul Giamati fan, and this week I found out he has a podcast called "Chinwag." It is about all sorts of things like paranomral, UFOs, ancient mysteries and other silly stuff. They don't seem to take it too seriously but they also are informed. Anyway one of the first ones had Billy Bob Thornton on and it was pretty funny.
I've been enjoying one called Oh What a Time from these 3 British comedians. I wasn't familiar with any of them before, but they're all very funny. Each episode they do a different theme from history like sports, or myths, or discoveries, etc. and then present real historical info about it in a funny way. This is where I learned that, depending on how you calculate it and given some unknowns, the highest paid athelete of all time is not Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods, but the Roman charioteer Gaius Appuleius Diocles whose winnings might have been as high as $15 billion in today's dollars.
So after a lengthy hiatus, my friends' podcast is back! It's about my friend's incredibly insane father, what growing up with him was like, the insane damage he caused to everyone in his orbit in St. Louis, and how my friend can try to be a good dad to his own kids today. And yes....there will be a special guest star sometime this season.
