I'm in a major gaming rut. Video games are the most impressive they've ever been in terms of graphics and content. Boy are they boring though. Everything PVP has been ruined by customization, micro transactions, and modders.

I started playing Battlefield 1 again recently. The shooting mechanics are not my favorite and the servers are spotty but good Lord it is so cool to play large scale war games PVP. A dozen players charging on foot, a player giving mortar support, dude flies by on a motorcycle to capture a flag, a player takes down an enemy player in a fighter plane with an anti aircraft gun, your player clears the enemy from your flag with bombs from a heavy bomber plane. Great graphics, tons of huge maps with realistic destructable environments. I don't know how it isn't more popular, even being a few years old.

This is exactly why I can’t game in the modern era. Too busy. When I left there were four buttons and usually two actions. So if a game has 85 different mechanics and I play once a week at most I have to relearn everything it just isn’t fun.

This is exactly where I'm at.

You'll often hear about actors and the role of a lifetime, but for Tom McKay and Luke Dale it's especially relevant. For the past nine years they've dedicated most of their working lives to two video games - Kingdom Come: Deliverance (KCD) and its sequel. Added together, the scripts for the role-playing epics set in 15th Century Bohemia run to more than three million words, according to their makers. It's thought that KCD 2, which came out last week, could be the longest single video game script ever written.

Both actors spoke to BBC Newsbeat about what it was like to be part of such a huge project and working with the game's controversial director.

Random note, and I may be the only one who plays, but Rolen is being added to MLB the Show today for the first time since retiring. Phillies version, though probably a Cards version later. He’s not the best card as far as the game goes, but I’ll be happy to have it.

Well, never mind, it's a really good card. You just have to get almost every other card in the game to get it. There's a lesser Reds version that's easier to get.

‘007 First Light’ Ditches Franchise Lore for a Whole New James Bond

Initially announced back in 2020 under the working title Project 007, First Light was fully revealed this year with a trailer during Sony’s State of Play on June 4. Developed by Danish studio IO Interactive — famous for the Hitman series — it’s a third person, narratively driven action game that doesn’t just go back to the origins of Bond but fully creates its own version of the character and his mythos, unbound to any existing written or cinematic canon.

Following a younger Bond who has yet to obtain his 00 status, First Light treads new ground for the franchise, going even farther back than the opening scene of 2006’s Casino Royale where Craig’s iteration earned his call sign. With a new M, Q, and entirely original supporting cast, the Hitman devs are taking a bold swing, introducing the world to the first fresh take on Bond in gaming since 2012’s 007 Legends — and well before Amazon’s own cinematic reboot emerges.

From real sport to esports - why Saudi Arabia spent $55bn on EA

Depending on how you spent or are spending your youth (and maybe large chunks of your adult years) the phrase "EA Sports - it's in the game" is probably ingrained in your memory. And with the blockbuster announcement that Electronics Arts is being sold for $55bn (£41bn), well, EA is in the news.

EA's new owners will be a consortium spearheaded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), whose portfolio includes Newcastle United, the LIV Golf franchise and a range of boxing events. The takeover of the Premier League club, the investment in boxing and the creation of the breakaway golf tournament were met with an abundance of scrutiny. And when you consider that the EA deal is 11 times the PIF's investment in golf and 180 times the cost of Newcastle, it is perhaps not surprising that PIF's acquisition of one of the biggest gaming companies in the world has also raised a few eyebrows.

BBC Sport assesses the record-breaking takeover, what it means and whether it signals a change in strategy or a general diversification of PIF's business interests.
