Well hell. I don't want legalization repealed or anything. I'd just like for people to know better than to smoke it while driving!

My neighbors who have been the biggest potheads in the universe since before it was legal here put a bumper sticker on their car that states "re-illegalize marijuana"
They are probably mad that the price has gone up.

I know someone who made a pretty comfortable living dealing prior to legalization. Now he's really struggling. He'd probably vote to make it illegal again too.

To Zeus' point: Replace "stinks" with "smells good" in your post and I agree with you. But that's just personal preference. (Definitely compared to cigarette smoke!)
To MikeChamp's NYT article: Apparently, legal weed is killing the booze industry. Which might be a net good thing? But also why it seems they're trying so hard to push this "hyperemesis" angle and such.

Agreed. The smell is everywhere and it’s awful. And yeah, don’t forking drive with it, geez.
That said I’ve never tried it so are there a lot of people who like the smell?

Will this cause a reconsideration of some of the state legalizations?
Scientists say marijuana doesn’t ease anxiety or other mental health conditions
Using medical or recreational marijuana to ease symptoms of numerous mental health conditions doesn’t work, according to two new analyses of existing gold-standard research.
Medical marijuana includes products with cannabidiol, or CBD, and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the part of the plant that produces euphoria. “We found no evidence any form of cannabis is effective in treating anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress disorder, which are three of the leading reasons for which cannabis is prescribed,” said Jack Wilson, a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Sydney’s Matilda Centre for Research in Mental Health and Substance Use.
Wilson is the lead author of one of the studies published Monday in the journal Lancet Psychiatry, which analyzed results from 54 randomized controlled trials published between 1980 and 2025. “The cannabis medications being administered in these studies were largely oral formulations, such as capsules, sprays or oils,” he said. “In real life, people typically use smoked cannabis, and there is even less evidence of its effectiveness for mental health.”
Using marijuana also did not improve other mental health conditions such as anorexia nervosa; bipolar disorder; obsessive-compulsive disorder, or OCD; or psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia, Wilson said.
Studies on marijuana are often small and can be difficult to conduct, experts say. Still, the randomized controlled trials that made up the Lancet review are the gold-standard of research, said Dr. Deepak Cyril D’Souza, Vikram Sodhi ’92 Professor of Psychiatry and director of the Yale Center for the Science of Cannabis and Cannabinoids in New Haven, Connecticut.
D’Souza, who was not involved in the Lancet study, is the senior author of a recent JAMA paper that also explored the effectiveness of natural and synthetic forms of CBD and THC on mental health conditions. “These two papers clearly show there isn’t any evidence to recommend the use of cannabis or cannabis derivatives to treat mental health,” D’Souza said. “Yet almost every state in the US approves medical marijuana for mental health conditions.”

Re: It smells like weed everywhere
As far as the medicinal benefits of marijuana... while even medical professional prescribe antidepressants to people to ease whatever is going on in a patient's life... I think the only way that works is if you have an actual plan to fix the underlying problems while the drug is paving over the issues, and then get off the prescription once things are fixed. For some people this is also easier said than done.
But when it comes to marijuana, since there is no medical professional in the loop, I doubt for most people there are even concepts of a plan. I think a lot of people self-prescribe marijuana thinking it will lighten the load and just end up with an additional problem. I'm sure for some people it can be successfully used for medicinal purposes, and people probably should have the freedom to make that choice, but I'm skeptical complete de-regulation was the best way to have handled it.
And yes, it smells everywhere, especially in the supermarkets in the winter when it gets stuck on thick clothing.
