Arenado started at third base and went 1-3 in the Dbacks’ loss to the Dodgers tonight. I wish him well.

Brendan Donovan goes yard in his first AB as a Mariner. Good for him.

Mariners fans are conflicted because they love the HR but then saw his thin blue line head band.

T'was actually the very first pitch he saw as a Mariner.

Cincinnati 6, Boston 5 (11 innings)

Sonny Gray: 4IP, 6H, 4R, 3ER, 1BB, 5K, 1HR. He threw 35 pitches in the first inning and pretty much sucked, but he was bailed out of being the goat by CB Bucknor. In his post-game interview, Alex Cora spent most of his time talking about Bucknor (Cora got ejected in the 8th inning). Cora quoted Contreras as saying the Reds weren’t chasing pitches.

Willson Contreras: 0-2, 2BB, 2K, 1HBP.

Twins manager Derek Shelton becomes first manager to be tossed for arguing that a player didn’t signal for challenge quick enough (the player in question was Ryan Helsley).

Sonny Gray is pitching today, the Red Sox home opener. They are playing the Padres, who have had success against him in the past. I am nervous. If he doesn’t do well for the second consecutive game, I will be worried that he won’t last in Boston.

Boston 5, San Diego 2

Sonny Gray: 6IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 3K, 0HR, 4.50ERA
Quality start and the win. The 2 runs could have been unearned, the CF lost a ball in the sun.

Willson Contreras: 3AB, 1R, 1H, 1RBI, 1BB, 1K, .174BA
Willy finally started showing some life. His BB came on an ABS overturned strike to ball, he was so sure he was right he started jogging towards first base even before the overturn was announced. His HR in the bottom of the sixth picked up Sonny while he was still the pitcher of record by making the score 3-2 Boston, they showed Sonny clapping in the dugout.

I would put these posts in the Other Games thread instead of former Cardinals watch. This thread is mega enough just with player news.
