Here is the breakdown from Jomboy; pretty good look at everything that happened.

Re: Horrible umpires
You talk about a horse bleep person and ump. MLB needs to get rid of him. Adios.

Re: Horrible umpires
Here’s one:
3-2 is the book count; unbeknownst to anyone the umps count was 3-1.
Pitch is thrown for a strike.
Cather throws it back to pitcher. Batter stays in the box. Pitcher throws another pitch. Ball 4 and the batter goes to 1b.
Coach of the pitching team calls time and argues it was strike 3 two pitches ago. Umpire checks with the book. Calls the batter at 1b out.
I’m fairly certain that’s not correct, but can’t find it in the rule book. I think if the count was 2-2, then 2-3, then the next pitch is a ball and it becomes 3-3, the appeal that it’s 3 strikes can still be made as the at bat is still ongoing.
But once ball 4 is thrown, they can’t appeal it wasn’t ball 4 because two pitches ago was strike 3. They can only appreal that it wasn’t ball 4 and the umps can’t go back and change the count once the at bat is complete….unless it truly wasn’t ball 4.

Re: Horrible umpires
I think they can reverse it so long as there has been no pitches to the next batter. Joey Baloney can probably tell us more officially.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote: ↑October 24 26, 2:12 pmHere’s one:

Umpire is God as far as balls and strikes. Even if wrong. They can consult their indicator, their partners or the home book when asked by coaches. But their decision is final no matter what the book or other people's claims are. If the book(s) are correct but the umps think it is different, the ump is right. If, like your case, the ump determines his count was wrong and wants to change it, it's his prerogative. As you say Cards, once a pitch is thrown to the next batter, no appeal allowed on previous AB.

No pitch was thrown to the next batter. Ball 4 was thrown after strike 3 was thrown.

Re: Horrible umpires
I thought the ab ended when there was a walk and the batter runner touched 1b.

Re: Horrible umpires
But an appeal of anything related to the AB can occur any time before a pitch is thrown to the next batter. Just like batting out of order or a base running appeal.AWvsCBsteeeerike3 wrote: ↑October 24 26, 9:03 pmI thought the ab ended when there was a walk and the batter runner touched 1b.
