George Herman "Babe" Ruth was an American original, baseball's first great slugger and the most celebrated athlete of his time. The southpaw hurler debuted with the Red Sox, winning 89 games in six years while setting the World Series record for consecutive scoreless innings. "The Sultan of Swat" converted to the outfield full-time after his sale to the Yankees in 1920 and led New York to seven American League pennants and four World Series titles. He finished with 714 home runs, leading the league 12 times, including a remarkable 60 round-trippers in 1927.

Ty Cobb's Hall of Fame Biography

Ty Cobb may have been baseball's greatest player, if not the game's fiercest competitor. His batting accomplishments are legendary - a lifetime average of .367, 297 triples, 4,191 hits, 12 batting titles (including nine in a row), 23 straight seasons in which he hit over .300, three .400 seasons (topped by a .420 mark in 1911), and 2,245 runs. Intimidating the opposition, "The Georgia Peach" stole 892 bases during a 24-year career, primarily with the Detroit Tigers.

Ruth would still be ahead of Aaron and Bonds if his first 6 seasons hadn't been as a pitcher. I hadn't really ever thought about it in that way before.

Why? People doesnt realize how dominant Barry Bonds was. He might be a jerk or he might have used 'roids. I am talking about the on-field performance.If there is anyone who can beat Ruth, it will be either Bonds or Mays.
