#2 Starter..

Any ideas as to how the rotation will shape up in regards to who starts game 2, game 3, etc.?

I know it's early in spring to be discussing it...but barring injuries I think we can all safely assume that Carpenter, Wells, Wainy, and Reyes are in the rotation and the only rotation battle is for that 5th spot..

So who gets starts 2-4 to start the year? Only asking because we have tickets to the ring game...

If I had to guess I would think Wells....but then again you can make an argument for Reyes because he was in the rotation last year..

Thoughts?

One of the articles in the Post today said Wells would start the second game of the year. Behind him, I would think Reyes and Wainwright are interchangeable in the 3/4 slot, and the winner of the 5-spot competetion obviously comes last.

Ahh..thanks pujols...I haven't gotten a chance to read anything in the Post today besides the Molina article..

JUPITER, FLA. — Righthander Kip Wells picked one at-bat in his spring debut as a Cardinal that meant the difference between getting through three innings and pushing his pitch count after just seven batters.

He had Florida's Miguel Olivo with a 1-1 count and the Marlins catcher worked a walk. A better pitch here, a grounder there, and Wells would have had the available pitches to throw the third.

"Had I got him, maybe I would have gone out for the next inning," Wells said. "I'm relatively content with it. Maybe throw a few less pitches (next time)."

Slated to be the Cardinals' starter in the second game of the regular season, Wells threw 33 pitches over two scoreless innings in an 8-1 victory Saturday. He allowed one hit, struck out two and walked only Olivo. He faced four batters in the second but needed 19 pitches to get out of the inning.

We have like 3 or 4 off days in April, so I think I remember reading that we won't need a #5 starter until late April. I know this thread is about the #2 starter...just saying.

I read something from Goold that said Reyes gets the third start, and Waino pitches in Houston on Friday.
