Why? People doesnt realize how dominant Barry Bonds was. He might be a jerk or he might have used 'roids. I am talking about the on-field performance. If there is anyone who can beat Ruth, it will be either Bonds or Mays.cardinalkarp wrote:That's just plain silliness.and Barry Bonds.

Actually, Bonds and Mays were both known to be jerks. And, if I remember correctly, isn't Mays Bonds' Godfather? Anyway, neither of them surpasses Ruth, in my opinion.DiLLaGii wrote:Why? It's funny, Cobb has long been regarded as "possibly" the greatest player of all time but apparently most folks no longer think that. Probably Rose obliterating his all-time hit total had something to do with that.
If anyone's going to give Ruth a run for his money I'd think it might be Williams.

I am not saying Bonds or Mays IS a better player than Ruth. All I am saying is, if I EVER consider voting other than for Ruth, it would be either Bonds or Mays. For all other players, I will vote for Ruth without even thinking.Richie Allen wrote:Actually, Bonds and Mays were both known to be jerks. And, if I remember correctly, isn't Mays Bonds' Godfather? I think a lot of people realize how dominant he's been, and attribute at least a large part of his recent performance to steroirds. That's the boat I'm in, and there's no way I would ever vote for him over Ruth. The fact that he is a jerk only exacerbates the situation.DiLLaGii wrote:Why? Exactly how I would put it. Bonds was great. Not comparable to Ruth, but an all time great nonetheless. Enter Sterioids/Speed/HGH he entered that Ruth category. So he got there by cheating. Now add in the douchebag factor and he drops even more.redbirdjazzz wrote:I think a lot of people realize how dominant he's been, and attribute at least a large part of his recent performance to steroirds.
