Cards Offseason Review, MTV Style

Post by Hungary Jack »

I was going to wait until Opening Day to post this, but I'll be in Maui practicing a different type of surfing. So here goes. Enjoy!

To the tune of "The Way" by Fastball
watch the video here http://youtube.com/watch?v=b0wfu3tOrtQ
I recommend you play it another window as you read through the words.

Walt made up his mind, and sent Marquis packing
He’d had enough of his high ERA
And then Soup found the Cards’ best offer lacking
He signed with Milwaukee for a sum that blew me away.

Walt dialed Jason Schmidt, and they got to talking
Busch III would be an ideal place for him to play
But when the price got high Walt started balking
Who would be dealing for the Cards after Opening Day?

(chorus)
Anyone could see that the new world champs faced woes untold
The closer was limping; the centerfielder was old
The rightfielder went AWOL on the day of the champs' parade.
Then they saw Jeff Weaver wandering off somewhere
Mulder is out for at least half the year
The leftfielder’s a butcher whenever a ball flies his way.
His way…

But the braintrust had schemes for a revamped rotation
They’d sign Kip Wells and set the Deacon on his way
They’d start two kids who last fall shocked Tiger nation
These three would be dealing for the Birds on every fifth day.

(Chorus)
Network pundits claimed a roster in dire need of repair
But Walt found an Angel for a price beyond fair
Braden was happy to take the ball every fifth day
Izzy’s rebuilt hip helped him find his nasty cutter of old
Tony and Scottie finally came in from the cold
Jimmy’s toe should be ready for duty on Opening Day…not May…

(guitar solo)

(Chorus)
The club heads north with a full roster revealed
Tony’s in hot water for falling asleep at the wheel
But the club says “don’t worry--we won’t make it a big deal.”
Now the champs'rotation is set for the Opening Day
Against the club where the hook sent Beltran away
The unlikely World Champions can finally have their say…
Today…

Here's to a great 2007 season!

That was really fun to listen along to.

I really like making up alternate lyrics to songs like that.

Great job!
