How many Hall of Famers are playing now?

Post by valley_card22 »

We had this talk at work during lunch. How many guys are HOF right now. I mean are we going through another Golden Age? It just seems that there are a lot of guys getting those words thrown around. Heres the list we came up with. BL means boarderline HOF. Assume players keep their average stats for rest of their careers. Guys in their 2 or 3rd year are left off.

Yankees: Marino RIveria, Jeter, ARod

Red Sox: Schilling (BL), Manny

Tampa:

Bal: Sosa (BL)

Toronto: Halladay (I said Hall of Very Good, the group said BL),Frank Thomas

White Sox:

Indians

Royals:

Twins: Santanta,
A's: Mike Piazzia

Angels: Vlad

Seattle: Ichiro (BL)

Texas:

NL

Atlanta: Andruw Jones (BL), Chipper Jones (BL) John Smoltz

Mets: Pedro

Was:

FL:

Philly:

STL: Pujols, Edmonds (BL), Rolen (BL)

CHI: Soreino (BL..if he keeps his pace he'll be in)

Pitt:

Cinncy: Junior Griffey (once a lock, hes still prolly in)

Hou: Biggio

Mil:

SF: BOnds (GRRRRRRRRR)

LAD:

SF: Madduz. Hoffman

Az: Johnson

25 guys. Is that number to high or to low? What do ya think?

It seems very high, but you can make a strong case for pretty much everyone you named. I think Sosa and Edmonds are pretty big ifs, but I can see them get in. Soriano, maybe, but he's going to have to do a lot more imo.

Furthermore, with Santan, it's way too early to tell.

I've added some possibilities to your list, most of which are still too young to be in talking HOF, but they are on their way, if they continue producing like they're producing. I put my additions in bold

Yankees: Marino RIveria, Jeter, ARod, Mike Mussina

Red Sox: Schilling (BL), Manny,

Tampa: Carl Crawford

Bal: Sosa (BL), Miguel Tejada

Toronto: Halladay (I said Hall of Very Good, the group said BL),Frank Thomas

White Sox:

Indians: Travis Hafner, Grady Sizemore

Royals:

Twins: Santana,

A's: Mike Piazza

Angels: Vlad

Seattle: Ichiro (BL)

Texas: Michael Young, Mark Teixeira

NL

Atlanta: Andruw Jones (BL), Chipper Jones (BL) John Smoltz

Mets: Pedro

Was:

FL: Miguel Cabrera

Philly: Chase Utley, Ryan Howard

STL: Pujols, Edmonds (BL), Rolen (BL)

CHI: Soriano (BL..if he keeps his pace he'll be in)

Pitt:

Cinncy: Junior Griffey (once a lock, hes still prolly in)

Hou: Biggio

Mil:

SF: Bonds (GRRRRRRRRR)

LAD: Jeff Kent

SD: Madduz. Hoffman

Az: Johnson, Webb

Obviously some of those players have a long way to go, but they all have the ability to end up in Cooperstown one day.

I don't think Edmonds makes it.

He's very similar to Bernie Williams, and I wouldn't put Williams on the list.

Edmonds has a 289/382/539 line with 350 HR, 1068 RBI, and 1115 R. He was a four time all-star and his highest MVP rank was fifth.

Williams has a 297/381/477 line with 289 HR, 1257 RBI, and 1366 R. He was a five time all-star and his highest MVP rank was seventh.

I don't think either distinguishes himself enough to make the HOF.

I think the one MAJOR thing about Edmonds you failed to show is his phenominal defense (I think he's at 8 or 9 gold gloves).

Edmonds has eight; Bernie has four. I'm not sure that's enough to distinguish him above Williams.
