I'm sorry BIS, but the Fox gun they used in the playoffs was mis-calibrated or artificially pumped up. Those pitchers were not consistently throwing 3-4 mph faster than they did for the entire rest of the season in October.haltz wrote:Here's something else from BIS about Joel Zumaya.
By the way, there has been some controversy of late that the radar gun used on Fox broadcasts may be a "fast" gun. We looked at the velocity readings from all 2006 regular season Fox broadcasts and found them to be in line with the rest of baseball.
I'll also state that velocity readings from even high-dollar radar guns still come with a tolerance of +/- 3%, which would be 3 mph at this 90-100 level. This fascination with 100 vs. 99 vs. 98 is as silly as a guy at the NFL combine running a 40 yard dash 0.02 seconds slower than another guy. It's obvious that these folks are not scientists/engineers.
