Andres Galaraga sticks out in my mind as a Card.

This thread reminds me of the passage in Three Nights in August about TLR's list of players that had both the highest level talent and heart... the list was a very short one.

for me it is a tossup between darryl and the mick

i would say doc, but even if he handnt gotten high so much, the history of young phenom pitchers who blow out their arms is pretty high---so in my book he did just what we expect from young phenoms

now darryl and mick have my votes. man those two were just sick and too think of how much better they would have been if they took care of their bodies.

How about the all-time cardinal did less with more team

I was pretty young when Magrane was pitching. Who would ya compare him to? Did he come up with super hype?

Also his is the third CLint Hurdle referece in the last 4 days I've seen. I heard he was on SI as a high school player and never panned out? Anything else?

My biggest one like I said was Strawberry. I was young in mind-late 80's when he was comming on the scene. But from what I've read/heard he could have been one of the all-time greats.

On a side note, Robert Downy jr. One of the most brilliant actors of my lifetime, couldnt stay clean.....could have been a mega star.

In my mind, these have to be two of the greatest/saddest in this list. They could both have been the greatest. For a couple of seasons, they were.

ex: Gooden in '85. 24-4, 268 k, 16 CG (!), 1.53 ERA (226 ERA+)

Strawberry in 87: 39 HR, 108 R, 104 RBI, 36 SB

Both guys had all the raw talent on earth. Unfortunately, they also had a good percentage of the raw cocaine on earth.
