Naturally. I couldn't hear the PA announcement because after Morgan said "You don't use statistics to prove the point, but you use statistics to embellish the point" I took one of those little squarish rulers and shoved it in my ear till it came out the other side.haltz wrote:Haha. I'm no Joe Morgan booster. The man says some absurd things that demonstrate that he just isn't interested in learning basic facts about the rosters of the teams he is broadcasting about. But the above is not what he said. He didn't say anything derogatory about Eckstein's throwing ability. He said that Eckstein gets velocity on his ball by putting his whole body into it and that more often than not he has a quick release and gets it there on time. That's just plain true.Phyrkrakr wrote:I don't mind Morgan heaping praise on Reyes, even if I'm not a fan of Morgan OR Reyes. But when Joe says in the first inning something derogatory about Eckstein's throwing ability, and then when Reyes makes a good play "Now THAT'S how it's supposed to be done" it gets me a little bit angry. They both made the out, for Chrissakes. No reason to be a d!ck about it, Joe.
Reyes made that play deep in the hole and then threw a laser to 1st. Morgan's comment was that with a strong arm a SS can throw off his back foot like that. Eckstein cannot do that. Morgan was just stating the facts.

I am consistently amazed at the absurd things that come out of Morgan's mouth. That said, I thought he avoided pure stupidity most of the night.
And as far as the vast east coast conspiracy is concerned, I agree with the many on this thread who already have suggested that we got about the amount of praise that tonight's play warranted. In fact, we probably should be glad that they chose to praise the Mets (who did indeed play very well) instead of bash us as frauds and pretenders (we did not execute well in any aspect of the game).
You give up 17 hits, drop a fly ball, get thrown out at the plate, let a couple squeakers make it past everybody, etc etc etc -- -- you're probably just as glad that your opponent is being described as favorities, instead of YOU being described as "this style of play was good for 83 wins in last year's NL, it won;t cut it this time."
Not to mention -- Reyes is 24. He looks like a 300 hitter, an 850+ OPS player, AND a fantastic defensive shortstop. They SHOULD be talking about him . . .

It was a good play, but I wouldn't go that far.G. Keenan wrote:I'm no Joe Morgan booster. Yeah, laser might be exaggeration, but it was a very strong throw, from deep in the hole, that was 100% arm. No body behind it. That was Morgan's point.JohnnyJay wrote:It was a good play, but I wouldn't go that far.G. Keenan wrote:I'm no Joe Morgan booster. TFG: "I hate Jose Reyes"
TFG's DAD: "Why? He's awesome"
TFG: "I know, but he doesn't play for us"

Yes. Morgan's point was valid. Sorry, just nitpicking on the "Laser".G. Keenan wrote:Yeah, laser might be exaggeration, but it was a very strong throw, from deep in the hole, that was 100% arm. There was one game that fell on Genie Zelasko's birthday, and it was right after a game was rained out I think, and she said (I kid you not) "tonight, for my birthday, no one has to wear a raincoat". Now, of course she's surounded by a bunch of guys, and raincoat is slang for a you-know-what. I swear, the look on her face after she said that was like "WHAT DID I JUST SAY?!"Third Strike wrote:Capt_Morgan wrote:i was about ready to turn it on john and mike.
all of this new york talk gets old after a while.
remember last year playoffs?
Genie Zelasko after Game 7. Classic NYC slurpage. I remember it, but I was just too happy to care!
It was great!

I wasn't really listening to the game that closely (too much fun in flash chatG. Keenan wrote:I'm no Joe Morgan booster. Morgan still p!sses me off, though, when he's constantly poo-pooing statistics as irrelevant or not important. I realize that that's one opinion, but it's not one I look for in a guy who's supposed to be an analyst at a ball game. It's not like we can turn to Jon Miller for any insights about the game, since he seems to be surprised by everything that happens on the field.

First of all, saying that Joe Morgan is bad is insulting the word "bad." You are understating just how awful he is. I think FJM got about a month's worth of material tonight alone.
But, I can't really complain about him drooling over Reyes. Unfortunately, he's a pretty good player, albeit an annoying one. No, THE most annoying one. It's when he starts that stupid reverse cowgirl and bounces around like he's a kid riding a plastic pony that I would just assume throw the television out the window rather than continue watching.
