Pssst- I think it's "consolation", not "constellation". As in "it's the prize that consoles you for not winning first"
I swear it was the spell checker. Some day I'm going to have to figure out how to turn that thing off.

Great thing about baseball, huh? I don't think you could find two people on the planet who would see eye to eye on everything.

The stuff about Earl Weaver can be traced back to Branch Rickey. Maybe not the "wait for the three run homer" (which is misleading anyway) but definitely the stuff about on-base percentage.

Plus, how many studies have been done showing that Weaver was...right?

At least one that I know of, or at least one article. Weaver ranked very high in doing things according to what a SABR guy would say he should do.

I mean, the studies that show scoring runs correlates high with on-base percentage. Raddy may not agree with what Weaver did, but looking over the 1969 and 1970 offensive numbers show it was pretty effective. OPS+ of 119 in '69 and 114 in '70. They led the league in walks by a big margin in '70 and I doubt any of them were wasted directly afterwards by a sac bunt.
