The strikeouts can be dealt with, but the DP's are a problem.ToughGuy_BlueShirt wrote:KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKDOUBLEPLAYKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKGatewaySnayke wrote:I don't understand this hostility towards Preston Wilson...

The 26 runs are misleading because of the big 9th inning against the Stros on Sunday. The Cards have now scored a whopping 12 runs in 61 innings against opposing starters this year. That's 12 runs in 9 games.GatewaySnayke wrote:Shaky, at best, which is why I think my statement about them being smoke and mirrors is correct. They have scored just 26 runs, which is below three runs per game. They allowed only 12 runs on trip, but it came at the expense of the Pirates and Astros.
And they have scored only 5+ runs one time, and THAT came at the expense of a closer who is broken down.
Thankfully they've gotten to face two of the worst offenses in the NL in that time.

BW, I agree. A middling offense that has not progressed at all through the first three series'.
TGBS, I'm not a sponsor of Wilson, I just think he gets a lot of flack. Yes, he strikes out a lot. Nine now in about eight games. But he should have had a RBI in the first game against the Mets, and he has had other hard hit line drives up the middle that have gotten caught. And of the nine runs scored in this series, Wilson was responsible for driving in three of them.

Agreed...greenback44 wrote:Wilson is an ugly, ugly hitter. Ugly.
The Cardinals are 5-4 and Pujols has a .176 BA. Survive and advance.
Intra-division wins like these --being as beat-up as the Redbirds are right now-- are found gold. They might very well be the difference needed to win the division come Sepember.
This Pirate series (as unsightly as it's been from an offensive standpoint) must surely have hammered home in the players' minds the virtues of TLR's mantra to "play a hard nine"
