After things the two have said/done over the years involving the Cards(and other teams), I don't really feel too bad for them, honestly. I'm not cackling with glee that they never really came to fruition, but I really don't have a whole lot of pity for Prior because of things he's said(his radio comments in '03 about not caring if the Astros beat them out for the division as long as they "Bash the Cardinals' brains in", etc).

I feel less vitriol towards Wood; he was just a freak that liked to throw inside at the head occasionally.

I don't think either of them are done, really. But neither will ever do much more than 5th starter work(Prior) or Bullpen(Wood) from this point onward, it would appear.

From everything I've read about Prior, the condition in his shoulder is not one that's going to be fixed by going on the DL, and possibly not one that will be fixed for any great duration by surgery. There's a growing chance that he's done not just for this year, but forever. He may never make more than 10 starts in a season again.

I'm just kinda disappointed. I'm a fan of the Cardinals, but I'm a fan of baseball. And I like watching great baseball, which Prior undoubtedly delivered.

Over the last several years it's been fun to tease Cub fans about Wood and Prior's bad luck, just to see their misery grow . . . but this is getting ridiculous. My question is, is it really just bad luck? Or are these two really that fragile? Or is the Cubs' coaching staff and training procedures partially to blame?
