BJ Ryan to the DL indefinitely

Post by planet planet »

From Rotoworld:
Blue Jays placed LHP B.J. Ryan on the 15-day disabled list with an elbow injury.

It wasn't the back, but it seems Ryan was hurting while blowing two saves in two weeks. He'll be examined by Dr. James Andrews on Monday. Jason Frasor will take over the closer's role indefinitely and is worth grabbing in all leagues. Apr. 15 - 11:49 am et

He can say hello to Mr. Mark Prior while he is there......................from the Tribune:

Prior update

After visiting California orthopedist Lewis Yocum, Mark Prior will get a second opinion from Alabama surgeon James Andrews.

That means it will be a few days before a final decision on whether Prior can start throwing again or whether he will need some sort of surgery on his shoulder.

It was Andrews who diagnosed Prior last winter with looseness in his shoulder capsule, but the decision was made then to strengthen the shoulder.

After that, Prior pitched in spring training but never reached his old velocity and now is experiencing pain.

according to ESPN they were mentioning its a possible torn flexor tendon, and if thats the case then he would be out for the remainder of the season.

Aieeeee. Huge blow for Toronto's already slim chances if that happens.

Me too. I need to know if I should drop him now. Zach Greinke is still considered a reliever on Yahoo, so I could use him to fill the RP slot. I've still got San Frans closer, so I'll be alright (I hope) in the save category.

I just put him on the DL for now and picked up Frasor. I'd hate to drop him outright and have his injury not be to serious. I'll drop him later if he's done for the year.

Looks like it's up to 6 weeks for Ryan.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2839650

The Toronto Blue Jays will put third baseman Troy Glaus on the disabled list on Tuesday due to a sore left heel, GM J.P. Ricciardi said Monday.

Also, closer B.J. Ryan, currently on the 15-day disabled list, will be out 4-to-6 weeks due to a strained ligament in his left elbow. Teammate Gustavo Chacin had a similar injury last season.

Ricciardi said Ryan would probably be out closer to 6 weeks. "We'll try to hold down fort until he comes back," Ricciardi said. "We're just glad it's not season-ending."
