He is a very highly-touted prospect.
It's easier to find a power hitting outfielder then it is to find a good pitcher I guess was their rationale.

Not if you're the Cardinals.

I agree with the previous poster, Byrnes would look good in RF.

To be honest I LOVE the way Bynes plays, this isn't a bad idea at all. He hustles, can get on base, CLASS guy, and has a killer arm in the outfield with a pretty darn good glove. Good idea, let's do it!

I'd go for it, but I want more of an impact player. You know, the one that Dewitt is saving up all that money for.

I don't know, though.

Young isn't just a power-hitting outfielder... he is a power-hitting center fielder. That is not really that easy to find.

And at the time Vasquez was coming off consecutive sub-100 ERA+ seasons; he was very close (92 in '04, 99 in '05), but he was still signed to a pretty bulky contract... in other words, he was a bit of a risk.

I really can't rationalize it... especially when you consider that they could have just kept Young and started McCarthy.

It's shocking what the Yankees gave up for him, too. Nick Johnson, Juan Rivera, and Randy Choate. Choate became nothing but Johnson's been very good, even if injury-prone, and Rivera gave them one solid year.

The D'backs do seem to be a promising young team. But look how bad they were for a few years there while they were rebuilding.

I suppose there's merit to the way they're doing it - but I prefer our way, where we manage, somehow, to be legitimate contenders year after year instead of having to be bad for several years and then get back up there.

I'm thinking Byrnes or Hairston would be available, possibly.
