Anyone who looks at it rationally knows that the impact of the homer is overstated. Hell, the team was joking about it that night - some of the guys got the pilot to announce that the team plane had just been struck by the HR ball.

It's mechanical, Lidge has said so, the team has said so, Ausmus has said so, anyone with any knowledge of Lidge or pitching mechanics has said so.

But I understand that it's more fun to post the "Oh noes!" picture again instead of looking at that.

He wasn't bad last year, but not dominate like 04 and 05.

Lidge was awful last year. He had an ERA+ of 86 and a WHIP of 1.40.

I realize he had an ERA over 5, but he had 32 saves and 6 blown saves

I would say that's an average closer but not awful

Who cares about his friggin' FIP ERA? In reality, he had a 5+ ERA, allowed 1.5 baserunners per inning, and gave up 10 homers in 75 innings. That is awful. Especially for a closer.

Anybody who saw Lidge pitch last year was not thinking "Gee, look at those K's, Lidge is still dominant, it's just all bad luck." He sucked. Badly.

6 blown saves, 10 HR, gave up more than twice as many runs than he did in 05. 1-5 record. He was definately awful compared to years past.
