Randy Keisler Sent Down to Memphis, K. Jiminez Recalled

Post by Cronos »

Jimenez was pitching well at Memphis, 12 Ks in 11.1 IP and a 1.59 ERA.

Yay for no more Keisler. I've wanted to see what Jiminez can do since Spring Training, so yay for that.

Does this mean they think Carp will be ready for Tuesday, or is a bullpen day in the future?

Does this mean no Carp in the near future?

This might just mean the bullpen was stretched out yesterday and they want to make sure they have fresh arms for this weekend.

Very good observation, fulldeck.

I, too, am interested to see what Jimenez can do. We may not get to see him this weekend if the games are close.

The bullpen was actually stretched out in three of the past four games (Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday), although we did have an off-day mixed in there as well - in those three games, the bullpen had to throw 16 2/3 innings.

With Wednesday's game mixed in there as well, that means the bullpen has thrown 18 2/3 innings in four games this week (allowing 5 runs - the two fluke runs by Izzy on Sunday, the two Thompson gave up on Tuesday, and the one Flores gave up on Wednesday).

So the point that Jimenez gives us a little breathing room in the bullpen this weekend is an excellent one.

What happens Tuesday obviously depends on how Carp's bullpen session goes tomorrow, and whether he wakes up Sunday pain-free. If so, he'll likely get the start Tuesday in Milwaukee.

If not - my guess is Thompson gets the start. It won't be Narveson, who's scheduled to pitch this weekend for Memphis (but watch the boxscores; if he gets skipped then that's a clue), but it could be Cate getting the callup.

They could be using Franklin for Tuesday and using Jimenez as the set up man.
