(drum roll).

I'm impressed with the intelligence of this board, many of you answered "6 hit game", showing that great minds think alike (that was my answer).

But we are wrong. It's the no-hitter. Only two in the past five years.

BTW - the unassisted triple play has only happened 12 times in the history of baseball...

Sanchez and Buerhle? When was Bud Smith's no-hitter? 2001?

Yep, like 4 or 5 days before September 11th. :(

Only two no-hitters in the past five years?

Huh. That's not right.

For awhile it seemed like there was one or two every single year. Been awhile, I guess. But Buherle and Anibal Sanchez is two right there; are we saying there were ZERO other ones all the way back to 2002?

The only two 6-hit days I could think of were Rennie Stennett and Nomar; then I remembered LoDuca which made three guys, and THEN I remembered that Stennett was actually 7-for-7. At that point I was no longer confident in my answer. but no-hitter would probably not even have been my next choice; they came to feel almost common for awhile.

2002 -- Derek Lowe
2003 -- combined no-hitter by Houston against the NYY's
2003 -- Kevin Millwood
2004 -- Randy Johnson
2006 -- Anibal Sanchez
2007 -- Mark Buehrle

Seems like no matter how you slice it, the answer is at least four, and probably five.

Mmmm.

He publishes his stat of the week but it's not up yet. He definitely said two no hitters, "That's right Murph, only two no hitters" in that incredibly squeaky voice of his.

Is a perfect game considered a no hitter? I think it should.
