Results for June 3rd
Memphis won 14-10 against the Las Vegas 51s. Andy Cavazos was the only pitcher that didn’t give up a run as he pitched a scoreless inning. He’s been very good lately and had a streak of 10 scoreless outings going until his last appearance. John Rodriguez went 3 for 4 with 2 homers and a walk. Box Log
Springfield split a double header with the Corpus Christi Hooks.
-They were creamed in the first game 15-3. Kevin Ool gave up 10 runs in 4 innings. I think Ool could be a good lefty specialist and is currently being misused as a starter. Nick Webber pitched a scoreless inning. Joe Mather, Bryan Anderson, and Juan Lucena all were 1 for 3. Mark Shorey went 2 for 3 with a double. Box Log
-They won the second game 6-4 on a walk off 3 run homer by Juan Richardson. Eric Haberer gave up 2 runs in 5 innings. He also gave up 4 walks. Matt Scherer had a rare bad outing and gave up 2 runs in a third of an inning. Jason Motte pitched a scoreless inning and two thirds. Colby Rasmus was 2 for 2 with 2 walks. Joe Mather, Mark Shorey, and Tyler Greene all were 1 for 3. Mather had another homer. Box Log
Palm Beach lost 3-2 to the Clearwater Threshers. Tyler Norrick gave up 3 runs over 6 innings with 7 strikeouts – but he also gave up 5 walks. Allen Craig and Mark Hamilton each homered. Isa Garcia went 1 for 3. I haven’t mentioned Dan Nelson for a while, but he’s been having a nice resurgence lately. He has an eleven game hitting streak going (with 2 multi-hit games in there). So far this year, he’s played every position except pitcher and catcher. Box Log
Quad Cities won 4-2 against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Blake King gave up 1 run over 3 innings with 6 strikeouts and 5 walks. Costarter Brandon Dickson gave up 1 run over 4 innings with 3 strikeouts. Kenny Maiques picked up another save by pitching a scoreless ninth with 1 K. Oddly, the team scored the 4 runs with only 3 hits. Daryl Jones had 2 of the hits in 4 at bats. Brandon Buckman was 1 for 5 with a homer. Box Log

The Cardinals named center fielder Colby Rasmus and righthander P.J. Walters the organization's minor league player and pitcher of the month.
Rasmus hit .349 with eight home runs and 24 RBIs at Class AA Springfield. He also had a .439 on-base percentage and .699 slugging percentage while stealing seven bases.
Walters went 4-0 with an 0.88 ERA at Quad Cities, pitching 30 2/3 innings that included 21 hits, five walks and 32 strikeouts.

Yeah. There's no reason to put him in AAA. He wouldn't gain much from being there. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see him make a serious run at the MLB roster next year. Plenty of guys have made the AA to majors jump.stretch wrote:Luhnow's interview sounded like they would keep Rasmus at AA. Am I reading that correctly, or am I totally wrong?
Another month like that, and he might be in top five prospect territory in all of MLB.

Whoops! I guess I missed the announcement. P.J. Walters is a good choice for pitcher of the month, but I would have gone with Luke Gregerson. Gregerson just seems to be abusing hitters right now, and he only got more and more dominant as the month went on.
They have some very promising arms in the lower minors, and I hope some of them start filtering up soon.

Not saying he's Pujols, but Albert effectively skipped AA and AAA. Morris skipped AAA, IIRC.Fat Strat wrote:Yeah. There's no reason to put him in AAA. He wouldn't gain much from being there. I've seen pictures of Morris in a Louisville Cardinals uniform, so at one time or another, here pitched for the AAA farm club. When, and under what circumstances, I can't say.stretch wrote:Not saying he's Pujols, but Albert effectively skipped AA and AAA. Morris skipped AAA, IIRC.Fat Strat wrote:Yeah.
