Memphis lost 4-3 to the Las Vegas 51s. Mike Parisi gave up 4 runs over 7 innings with 6 strikeouts. John Rodriguez went 1 for 4 with a double. Rick Ankiel was 1 for 3 with a walk. Box Log

Springfield won 5-4 against the Tulsa Drillers and is now 1 game under .500 and a game and a half out of first place. Mitch Boggs gave up 2 runs over 7 innings with 4 strikeouts. Chris Perez gave up a 2 run homerun in the ninth, but held on to pick up the save. Joe Mather went 2 for 3 with a double and a homer. Jarrett Hoffpauir was 2 for 4. Box Log

The Clearwater Threshers made up for the drubbing they took last night by beating Palm Beach 8-0. Adam Ottavino gave up 3 runs over 5 innings with 4 walks. For now I’m less concerned about whether Ottavino is throwing a 2-seamer or a 4-seamer than about the fact that he’s throwing nowhere near enough of his pitches for strikes. Box Log

Quad Cities won both games of a double header against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

-They won the first game 13-5. Elvis Hernandez gave up 1 run over 4 innings with 5 strikeouts. Costarter P.J. Walters gave up 3 runs over 2 innings. That’s the second rough outing in a row for Walters. Brandon Buckman was 3 for 4 with a homer. Christian Reyes went 2 for 4 with a double. Box Log

-They won the second game 3-2. Brad Furnish gave up 2 runs over 4 innings with 9 strikeouts. Tyler Herron pitched 3 shutout innings with 6 strikeouts. I’ll resist the obvious comment about them not pitching to contact. Daryl Jones was 1 for 3 with a walk. Brandon Buckman was 2 for 4 with a double. Wilmer Alvarado was 1 for 3 with a double. Box Log

While you might leave out the comment about "pitching to contact" it may also be noted the other three outs Herron got were ground ball outs and he is averaging better than a 2 to 1 ratio. So while he may not be "pitching to contact" he certainly isn't throwing high cheese, he is keeping the ball down which is much more of what Duncan preaches than the ever popular pitch to contact.
