Just thought I'd throw this in here, as this is the link'd topic from the big baseball forum.

Update from Day 1:

18: Pete Kozma, SS, HS. Considered by many to be the best middle infielder in the draft. A mature level headed guy, with a body that could develop power. He has good to decent skills at short, and is probably the only SS drafted in the first today who could stay at short in the bigs. It's probably a reach to pick him this high, but we saved some money and got the best middle infielder in the draft. He's out of high school, btw.

36: Clay Mortensen, RHP Gonzaga. "While there are often college seniors who make very good pros, it's rare for there to be one like Mortensen, a legitimate "prospect" on the rise in his senior season. He's got three usable pitches and a body frame that appears able to handle added strength, which could make his fastball even better. He should be a very intriguing senior sign this summer." He moved up a LOT in this draft after having a crappy junior college year. Most people project him as a number three or lower starter, but there's upside in him, even if he is a college senior. WCC pitcher of the year.

71: David Kopp, RHP Clemson. Messy mechanics, decent fastball/above average slider combo. Another third starter at best, probably picked higher than he should've been.

82: Jess Todd, RHP, Arkansas. Bulldog tenacity, max effort guy, probably a setup/closer type. Good fastball, decent slider, needs work on his change. Once again, picking above what he's probably worth.

112: Daniel Mescalso, 3B, UC Davis. He projects as a banjo hitter like Bill Mueller and was definitely a stretch.

142: Kyle Russell, RF, Texas . Projects as "a skinny Adam Dunn" and was considered by many as a top 50 player. Could get as high as 40+ HR a year, but wanted a ton of money, which is why he slipped. He's also a draft-eligible sophomore, so he could go back to school if nobody ponies up the cash. We saved some cash in the first three rounds, so we could pay him his $1M bonus hopefully. He set the school record for homers with 26 this year.

172: Tom Eager, RHP, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He has a funky windup and is considered pretty raw, probably going to be a middle reliever at some point.
