So since everyone (well not everyone) in my league wants to be an arse, can one of you good people answer me this:

One of my closers (Jeremy Accardo) blew a save last night. He gave up a couple of runs and didn't record an out (so technically he didn't pitch an inning). So, Yahoo shows his ERA and WHIP as INF (which I assume means infinity). My question is, does this affect my week, and how? I can't visibly tell, and have never seen this before.

I had Dan Wheeler give me an INF this week. Yes it does effect your week, but I don't know how they caculate it.

What does INF mean?

The ERA or WHIP for a pitcher will be displayed as INF for the day if he gives up earned runs (or hits and walks for WHIP) while failing to record an out.

ERA = (Earned Runs / Innings Pitched) * 9

WHIP = (Walks + Hits) / Innings Pitched

Any number divided by zero is infinity. Our system reflects the number as INF.

The totals recorded by that player are still added to team totals when ERA/WHIP is calculated. For example:

Smith: 0 IP, 3 ER = INF ERA

Jones: 3 IP, 1 ER = 3.00 ERA

Total: 3 IP, 4 ER = 12.00 ERA
