Dennis Dove has been placed on the disabled list with a sore shoulder. Troy Percival has been activated to take his place.
Memphis lost 6-5 to the Nashville Sounds. Blake Hawksworth gave up 4 runs in 6 innings with 5 strikeouts. Most of the damage was done by 2 homeruns. Until tonight, Hawksworth had done a very good job of keeping the ball in the park – he had given up 4 homeruns in 67.1 innings. As might be expected, Troy Percival wasn’t very sharp and gave up 1 run on a hit and 3 walks in two-thirds on an inning. Brendan Ryan was 1 for 5 and stole home in the first inning. Nick Stavinoha went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles. John Rodriguez went 2 for 3 with 2 walks and a stolen base. Box Log
Springfield won 2-0 against the Wichita Wranglers. After I said Eric Haberer would be hit hard yesterday, he pitched 6 and a third scoreless innings. I don’t know how long he can last with more walks than strikeouts and a K/9 less than 4, but I wish him well. Nick Webber pitched 1 and a third scorless innings with a strikeout. Jason Motte closed out the game with a scoreless innings and 2 Ks. Joe Mather was 2 for 4 with a double and a homer. I might as well set a macro to type that. Jarrett Hoffpauir went 1 for 3 with a walk. Bryan Anderson was 2 for 4. Colby Rasmus went hitless, but I won’t worry about him yet. Box Log
Palm Beach split a double header with the Jupiter Hammerheads.
-They lost the first game 6-2. Tyler Norrick saved the bullpen by pitching 6 innings with 5 strikeouts. Unfortunately he gave up 6 hits, 6 runs, and 4 walks in those innings. Allen Craig was 1 for 3. Mark Hamilton went 1 for 4 with a homer. Jose Martinez was 2 for 2 with a double. Brandon Yarbrough was 1 for 3. A.J. Van Slyke was 2 for 3. Box Log
-They won the second game 1-0. Robert Ransom started and pitched 4 shutout innings with 3 strikeouts. I don’t know if he’s going to take over a spot in the rotation or if this was just a one-time thing. Luke Gregerson added two scoreless innings and two more strikeouts. Allen Craig was again 1 for 3. Brandon Yarbrough was 1 for 3. A.J. Van Slyke went 2 for 3 with a double and drove in the only run of the game. Box Log
Quad Cities lost 5-2 to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Elvis Hernandez had a rare poor outing and gave up 3 runs in 3 innings. P.J. Walters gave up 2 runs (1 earned) in 3 and a third innings with 5 strikeouts. Wilmer Alvarado caught today and went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. .Box Log

Well, not quite 25, but your point is well taken. He should be playing AAA by now.Hungary Jack wrote:+++Socnorb11 wrote:Mather needs a promotion. It's insane that he's not getting a chance to mash AAA pitching.
He's 25 playing in a hitter's league. Let's see what he can do in Memphis.
Last year, Mather struck out 91 times, and walked 36 times (at high-A). This year, he's struck out 30 times and walked 28. His improved discipline is pretty impressive, even if it is a hitter's league. He was a 3rd round draft pick out of high school........... maybe he's just a late-bloomer. If he had gone to a 4-year college, this would only be his second full season of minor league ball.
