I think it is debatable that the segment in question is "comedy".

I also think it is debatable that Opie and Anthony are "good people".
docellis, we agree to disagree and that's ok.

Were Opie and Anthony fired because they were offensive, or because some corporate suits calculated that, in the long run, they would harm the company's bottom line?

Well, they were hired to be offensive (or at least "shocking"), so I'm guessing the latter.

They weren't officially fired, unless I just missed it.

Sorry--I meant suspended.

My question, rephrased, still stands.

It didn't change my answer, either.

As a part-time comedian myself, I'm puzzled by remarks like "It's just comedy, people," which has the implication that anyone who objects is uptight, or needs to lighten up, or doesn't have a sense of humor, blabbidy blabbidy blah.

Good comedy is all about context. It's not that hard to imagine a sketch where some character is describing some revenge fantasy against Condoleezza Rice that was actually funny. It could be absurd, it could be political in nature, it could be risque--but there's no context in which raping a woman and evoking "the horror in her face" is amusing.

I'd be curious to know if the Opie and Anthony defenders felt empowered or aroused by the incident in question. Or, for that matter, if they've been so desensitized that they felt nothing at all.
