Basic Fantasy Draft Strategy

Yeah, your RB situation is good but not great. Did you take Manning in the 1st round? How many teams are in your league?

If anything, I would try and trade one of your receivers if you really want a defensive upgrade. But I would only really go for Chicago or Baltimore. After that, the differences drop off significantly.

It might be worth it to try and trade lynch and a wr (fitz/alphabet) for like rudi johnson or something of that ilk. Depends on what other teams need, but I would look to shore up RB from your WR depth before worrying about DEF. There may be a surprise DEF still out there on waivers in your league.

So the RB's worth taking left were: Travis Henry, Ronnie Brown, Reggie Bush, Jones-Drew, McGahee, Benson, LenDale White.
I didn't think any of those guys were worth more than Manning so I swiped him. So it was all about value right? I could have my pick of those guys or Manning - and then it would have been the 5th or 6th before I was going to get value on QB's. Most guys had 2 RB's and I figured they and their autodrafts would fill out WR's and QB's before RB's. Lynch was a 6th Rounder.

I may make some offers for a RB but it is a yahoo public league so we'll see.

I'm not as well-versed in valuing players in a 10 team league, but I personally think with a smaller pool to choose from, it is less imperative to grab a QB or WR early because the pool of starters is smaller. Personally, I would take Reggie Bush over Peyton, and maybe Travis Henry. If those guys were gone I would take Manning. But that's my valuing of the players.

Getting Lynch in the 6th round is definitely great value, and looks like you played the autodraft very nicely.

It wasn't an Autodraft. I like Bush because he's a double threat, but I also think he's going to lose Receptions to the team of WR in NO and lose carries to Duece. At that point it seemed like Manning would score the most points, especially with my ability to get some depth at RB later in the draft. I'm trying to make a trade, but I think th e guy with Rudi Johnson has two teams in the league, because he's trading Rudi.

Carson, Rudi, Marques Colston, NE for Eli Manning, Brandon Jacobs, Kevin Curtis and Miami - seems way one sided.

That'll give this guy Carson Bugler, Rudi and LJ and Colston and Harrison - and I get to play him week 1.

Interesting. I would have taken Travis Henry or Willis McGahee over Manning, and maybe even Steve Smith too (if it was a larger league), but that's because I think its easier to find a top or adequate QB than to find good, non committee RB depth, or super top WRs. There are no QB committees.

Interesting. I would have taken Travis Henry or Willis McGahee over Manning, and maybe even Steve Smith too (if it was a larger league), but that's because I think its easier to find a top or adequate QB than to find good, non committee RB depth, or super top WRs. There are no QB committees.

Part of the reason is an amount of inexperience and using projected stats, past stats and yahoo rankings (along with some personal 'guessing') to figure out who I thought would score more.

Peyton was a top 5 player, where as Henry and McGahee were 45th and 68th last year respectively. I was thinking(hoping) McGahee would actually fall back to me in the third, at least when I first made the pick then realized it was going to be 18 or so picks before it got back to me. Then I was hoping for Edge or Portis would drop, and when they were gone I thought that I'd get Holt, Smith, Harrison or the like with 29th pick. Since they were gone I figured I could nab TJ, and there'd be a run on WR's. Since everyone had two RB's by now and the next 6 or 7 were pretty comparable I took Larry Fitz and Calvin Johnson with my next two.

I'm not disappointed with the way it ended up, but I would like to upgrade over Lynch.
