Who got the best of this trade?

Post by Fat Strat »

I trade: Aramis Ramirez and George Sherrill

I get: Grady Sizemore and Garrett Atkins

I have four other closers and my OF before the trade was Vlad, Brad Hawpe (just added), Hideki Matsui, with Jose Guillen (just added) at util. Just dropped Ankiel off my bench.

I think it's a pretty even trade, but it helps me quite a bit. I have depth at OF. I added Tulowitzki off waivers to my DL last week, and have Jose Reyes at SS. I'm already leading in steals so in a couple weeks I should be able to move Reyes and an OF'er, plug Tulo in at SS, maintain my SS rate with Sizemore, and get a serious upgrade at some other position.... possibly 1b. I have Berkman there now, but he's eligible at OF and we have a Corner Infield spot (rotating between Loney and Beltre right now) in this league.

With a rotation of Greinke, Lincecum, Lackey, Kershaw, and Duchsherer I don't see how I lose this league. I'm in 2nd place right now, 1.5 points out of first (rotisserie not H2H). I feel like I'm stacked and could only get better. I also have held Carpenter on my DL all season and just by cherry picking DL drops (Hawpe, Chad Cordero, and Tulo) into my 2nd DL spot, I've seriously upgraded an OF that started as questionable (Ankiel, Vlad, and Matsui were opening day starters).

I've finished 2nd in this league for 4 straight years, despite spending the vast, vast majority time in 1st place. Every year I have a major post-trade deadline injury or a team gets hot at the right time and passes me in the last week. Not this year.

I like that dead Sziemore is better than Sherril moreso than Ramirez is better than Atkins. Considering you have 4 other closers and a sweet starting staff, and the trade made great sense for you.

I'm not going to look it up, because it's not my team or league, but what kind of 2nd-half performers are all these guys? I don't know the answer, but I'd factor that into my decision making.
