FWIW, Mo was in the booth at last night's game in Atlanta and pretty vehemently stated "No" when asked if Lohse might be moved.

Re: Lohse Being Shopped?
This board is awfully friendly today. A 12-3 pounding of the Braves does wonders.
To repeat what's already said -- if they can get something valuable for him, go for it. But the most they could get is a B prospect (of which they have plenty) and a couple fringey prospects, maybe a AAAA guy. With a haul like that, they are better off rolling the dice with Carpenter and Wainwright then hoping Zambrano, Harden, Sheets and Sabathia all get injured playing flag football.

If there's a GM out there telling himself "Kyle Lohse is just what my club needs to win the World Series", we should be dealing with that GM more often.

That was in the off-season (of a terrible team at that)!Spider John wrote:A career year from Kent Bottenfield, and Adam Kennedy begat JimEd, so there's a pretty good precedent.
OTOH, this team is close to the playoffs, and given that chance I don't think you need to play beyond the season that's in front of you. Give up anything to improve the team, no. But there is no guarantee that we will be in shape to make the playoffs next year or any year after that.

If we can get some premium middle infield talent, I'd be for it.

I think that guy is Ed Wade.JL21 wrote:If there's a GM out there telling himself "Kyle Lohse is just what my club needs to win the World Series", we should be dealing with that GM more often.

More likely, there's a GM out there saying "I need one more starting pitcher to make the playoffs; who is the best starter available?" Maybe Lohse is the answer to his question. Or maybe Looper is?If there's a GM out there telling himself "Kyle Lohse is just what my club needs to win the World Series", we should be dealing with that GM more often.

Re: Lohse Being Shopped?
Lohse was traded at the last trade deadline for a B prospect. GMs out there don't think he's magically turned into a star. No one even wanted to give him a multi-year deal five months ago.JL21 wrote:My only beef with it is... what will you get for him? Are other teams really clamoring for Kyle freakin' Lohse to push them over the top in their respective races? And will he be a type-A guy at the end of the year? If so, wouldn't you rather just have the two picks, and keep your (minor) shot at the playoffs intact?
But I don't mind if they deal him. His value is about as high as it's ever been. If they can get something truly valuable for 2009 and beyond, then you might as well go for it.

I guess my point is that both had or are having a career year that you wouldn't expect them to come close to again.MDCardsFan wrote:That was in the off-season (of a terrible team at that)!Spider John wrote:A career year from Kent Bottenfield, and Adam Kennedy begat JimEd, so there's a pretty good precedent.

Re: Lohse Being Shopped?
I'd take an MLB-ready average shortstop or Mariano Rivera (probably the Yankees will suffer through Sidney Ponson though). It would have to be something like the Blanton trade, where the overall net effect, including internal promotions, on 2008 is positive. With Carpenter and Wainwright returning, plus Izturis so funky that he can't even decide if he's a SHB or a RHB, I guess that's possible. It helps if you think Lohse isn't that much better than Wellemeyer, Looper and Pineiro.heyzeus wrote:If we can get some premium middle infield talent, I'd be for it.
We've had it good the last few years, but I'm old enough to remember the Torre and Rapp Eras. They can't run a white flag up on the 2008 season, not when they're two games behind the WC and the two aces are returning.
