If there's a GM out there telling himself "Kyle Lohse is just what my club needs to win the World Series", we should be dealing with that GM more often.
More likely, there's a GM out there saying "I need one more starting pitcher to make the playoffs; who is the best starter available?" Maybe Lohse is the answer to his question. Or maybe Looper is?
And that's the point. It doesn't matter at all, whatsoever, what he fetched last year. It doesn't matter that nobody wanted to give him a multi-year deal in the winter. You're talking a guy who has thrown the ball exceptionally well this year who is cheap. My gosh, if Fuentes and Sherrill are attracting good prospects, you better believe Lohse will. You don't see anyone else talking about what those two did in previous years.

I'd say being a Type A is far from a given, but his year this year will certainly help.

That said, there's no way Mo has the guts to do it.

Fuentes and Sherrill haven't fetched anything, yet. Premium prospects aren't traded for Kyle Lohse. He's a career average pitcher and his past trade history and free agent history indicates what other teams think of him.

I disagree strongly.

When you look at what the interest in him was this winter, it was based off of his career and his ridiculous demands. There was also lots of other options out there. When you look at the trade market now, he's easily the best performing SP that would be available.

But I guess how he's pitched in the past is how he'll always pitch. Forget what he's said about what he's done that's helped him improve. All that is hogwash. And even if true, he'll suddenly forget all of that and have an ERA of 6.00 the rest of the year. Right?

Nobody is saying this.

The biggest difference between Lohse in 2007 and in 2008 is he's kept a couple of extra flyballs in the park. I don't know that too many front offices will get that excited about that difference.

Generally agree, but the Mets once traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano. It can happen.

Yes, if someone hired Steve Phillips last night, Moz should be on the phone immediately. Otherwise, let the guys play it out with the guys that brought em here.

"We're getting younger and transforming our roster that a year ago or two years ago was one of the oldest in baseball," Mets general manager Jim Duquette said. "Both of these pitchers are 29 years old, they still have a lot of mileage ahead of them, pitching-wise."
Phillips was the guy who pushed to draft Kazmir and was mad when they traded him. Phillips is not THAT dumb

You know what's far more likely than trading Lohse for a prospect like Kazmir? The Cardinals making the playoffs.

Can't trade away the best Starter while only 2 back. Keep him, he'll go 17-7 or so and hopefully lead the team to the playoffs, at worst he'll net a supplemental 1st rounder next year.
