Re: Lohse Being Shopped?
Keep him and play for a playoff spot, hope this year bumps him to a Type A FA and that some team signs him quickly in early December giving them some draft picks.
I would not be a seller if I was STL.

Trading Lohse = WHITE FLAG TRADE

I wouldn't care about the fan base if I'm Mo. I'd do what I think is best to improve his club. If there is a deal out there that does that, then you have to do it.AJ wrote:Trading Lohse = WHITE FLAG TRADE

You don't run a club based on what some fans might think. It's not like people will suddenly stop attending games.

Re: Lohse Being Shopped?
Teams will clamor for him when they see what is left out there. You can get an advanced prospect who can help next year, most likely a solid SS or 2B prospect.JL21 wrote:My only beef with it is... what will you get for him? Are other teams really clamoring for Kyle freakin' Lohse to push them over the top in their respective races? And will he be a type-A guy at the end of the year? If so, wouldn't you rather just have the two picks, and keep your (minor) shot at the playoffs intact?
But I don't mind if they deal him. His value is about as high as it's ever been. If they can get something truly valuable for 2009 and beyond, then you might as well go for it.
There's no guarantee of him being a Type A.
If he is a Type A, that will be about $2 million to sign the picks, and that may cause to go cheap on our picks, and not really have too much of a net gain anyway.
We aren't very good at producing young pitching talent, at least not lately we haven't been, perhaps we could use him as a chip to acquire a young starter who throws a sinker.

And even if they do, they'll come back when the team is winning in the future using the guys that were (theoretically, anyway) acquired for Lohse.BW23 wrote:I wouldn't care about the fan base if I'm Mo. Even if they trade Lohse for prospect(s), you're going to have Carpenter taking his spot, AW replacing 1/3 of Joel Loopmeyer, and that 1/3 of Joel Loopmeyer going to the 'pen. It wouldn't kill them in '08.

I meant trading Lohse as a salary dump, not if some team wants to offer the world for him.BW23 wrote:I wouldn't care about the fan base if I'm Mo. I'd do what I think is best to improve his club. Wouldn't he really have to crap the bed quite a bit from here on out to not be a type A?phinstd wrote:There's no guarantee of him being a Type A.
