I'm afraid she has energized the base of the other side just as much, if not more.
She certainly has. The difference (which I address in my previous post, even though I hadn't seen this post of yours yet) is that the democratic base was already motivated to support their candidate. I don't think that the dem's were afraid of low party turnout for Obama. Maybe among the Hilary voters, but I think their angst is more media hype than reality. The Republicans were legitimately bored by McCain and more than a few thought that staying home was better than voting for McCain.
It remains to be seen if Palin has changed that, but right now it's looking better.
Can we please (please, please, please, please, please, please,) put a moritorium on the use of the word "vet" as in "vetting" and "vetted?" I'm sick and tired of hearing this word. Let's kill it along with the following other words:
- Hanging Chad
- Weapons-grade
- Nuclear Option
- Under the Bus
I hate to give up on America (as I'm not the type that usually allows myself to be defeated), but if an extremist like Palin is what it takes to get out voters then maybe I should seriously think about moving...
not a big deal to anyone, and I know it's what the extreme right wants anyhow, which is exactly why its hard to leave...being defeated by the extreme fascist right would not do wonders for my ego...but then again, if the extreme right hasn't learned anything about fascism from the past then maybe they never will...

I think the experience issue is a fair argument, and a point of concern. But comparing her to Obama I don't see a deficit there. I don't have any idea how she'll do with Putin, Sarkozy, etc...but i really have no idea how Obama will do either. I agree that people have largely decided that he'll do okay. But I see an attitude that Palin doesn't even deserve that shot, and her selection is automatically laughable or irresponsible. Let her do some interviews and debates and let the public decide.
Yeah, it seems like they can both use the experience argument now. Or, better yet, maybe neither of them will and we'll actually turn this into a discussion of ideas. I can't wait for the debates.

I was going to pick this a part, but I won't bother. I'll just say this, if you think that Palin is extreme fascist right then you have a very warped view of the political spectrum.
Osama Bin Laden is extreme facsist right. Palin is a fiscal and social conservative, plain and simple, and representative of the political views of a large percentage of the country.

Apparently he was registered with the AIP as recently as 2002. Don't spin this, please.
What I think is sad/funny about the "energize the base" stuff is that she would be Vice-President. I guess some conservatives can shout "Look, we made the POS McCain dance to our tune!" It has no real policy significance beyond that.
