I didn't find there to be ANY substance in Palin's speech. Just constant jabs at Obama and a lie here or there.
If you think there wasn't ANY substance, you weren't watching the entire speech.
I watched from the moment she walked out to the minute it was over. Not once did she talk about why she deserved to be there or showed what she brings to the table. What? Because her husband can race snow mobiles and she's a hockey mom/pitbull? There was no substance. Constant attacks and vileness is not substance.

Maybe I'm wrong
I think the main issue is about how close the race was between the two, and each had very passionate supporters. As much as Huckabee was the evangelical right's choice, he never really passionately captured that group, and his more compassionate and level-headed stance on some other issues turned off a lot more strident conservatives. In the case of Obama and Hilary, you had supporters who were very passionately for each of their candidates. You toss in a neck-and-neck race, and bad blood develops. I'm not sure any part of the Republican base was ever very passionate about any of the candidates.

I wasn't a big fan of the speech, but she didn't do anything to hurt herself. I think for people that were on the fence, her speech tonight had no impact. Very little substance.

probably because she's a woman.

not saying it's right, but it's probably true.
Hillary did ok...and the Republicans seems to want that portion of the vote...

It just seems like if this is a candidate that they can rally behind (more so than McCain)...then I wonder why she didn't try to run?

I'm going to bow out before I really get pissed..

Take your glasses off and be objective for ten freaking seconds
I AM being objective.

And if you're going to get "really" pissed over my opinion, that's kind of sad.

I found no substance in the speech. If you did, good for you. But demeaning someone's service as a community organizer in the streets of Chicago and then taking a jab at his freaking WIFE after all of the [expletive] and whining about family attacks over the past week or so, that's low, that's red meat with no substance. Sorry.

Oh, it did something for the people on the fence. It knocked them to the Obama side. Tonight was such a partisan hit job that it was hard to watch at times. McCain is losing independents by a huge margin and the polls have reflected it. And this isn't gonna help.

I don't think anyone has argued she was well-known.

- Has she actually lied about the Bridge to Nowhere? All I recall her saying is that she said "no thanks" to the bridge. That's basically true. They didn't build it. She may have campaigned in favor of it, but it's going to be hard to play gotcha on someone for NOT building a useless bridge.

I saw her talk quite a bit about policies, although not in detail, i'll admit. But like another poster said earlier, that's mccain's job.

And I can't even begin to tell you how much of Obama's speeches don't have any "substance" by your definition. Note i'm not saying he didn't say anything of substance, he's a great speaker. but the "substance" that make up a lot of Obama's speeches is the same "Substance" that Palin used, just coming from a different perspective.

Yeah the bridge to nowhere was going nowhere because of all the backlash it was taking publicly...I give her props for the other cuts she made, but the bridge was DOA.
