PujolJunkie wrote:I think this sums it up. From FiveThirtyEight:
She gave a great speech for someone who would not be vulnerable to hitting back. A keynote, or frankly the Giuliani role. But after giving that speech, if she has any kind of embarrassing moment on the trail, she will be open to serious blowback. That was a Chutzpah Speech for someone with no foreign policy credentials who is fending off the Personal Scandal of the Hour. If she threads the needle and runs a gaffe-free campaign, it might work. But if her amateurism gets exposed in any way during the next few months, look out.
That seems pretty bitter and way biased to me. Similar to DeNiro in "Meet the Parents"; I'll be keeping my eye you.

It really is. This is one of the reasons that, and I'm totally not afraid to admit this straight up, that John McCain AND Sarah Palin terrified me against Obama. Because there's so much talk about how OBAMA IS LIBRULEST EVER and McCain is such a Maverick. It's not until I realized that McCain abandoned everything that made him the man he was in 2000 and that Palin is as far-right as it gets that I relaxed. Because these two are NOT the maverick moderates that they paint themselves to be. Not even close.
The talk about how "obama is librulest ever" mostly comes from himself.

I'd rather be moderate than far left as my social views prevent me from doing so though. It's frustrating in a way to realize that if I take my views step by step, it falls in line with the left everytime. If someone has similar views as me, I believe they are going to be what's best for this country.

I always listen to both (all) sides.

This is a republic. Why would I not?
I totally agree. It's just that some people fail to see that a lot, dare i say the majority, of accusations and faults one can find in the other party, can also be found in their own party.

So if PujolJunkie wants to vote for Obama because that's what he believes, i'm not going to try to convince him otherwise. Just watch the speech for crying out loud. I dont think the GOP meant it to be some revolutionary speech. Just letting America get to know the VP candidate a little bit.
I think it says something about Barack Obama when you watch his speeches and then you're constantly let down by every speech that follows.

The man I support delivers a damn-near revolutionary speech for politics every single time out. The expectations are high for me.

you're 100% right and this is one of the reasons i totally wouldn't mind seeing Obama as president. But to say that because his exceptional speech giving abilities aren't replicated on the other side, they're not substantial? Hmm.

The 2004 Keynote Speech
The New Hampshire Speech
The Race Relations Speech
The Nomination Speech.

You're telling me that none of these changed anything?

I don't see substance in constantly bringing others down by demeaning their service and their family. Two shots at Michelle Obama tonight. Countless attacks on Barack's community service. I'm sorry, that's not the type of thing that inspires me.

There is an issue that I do agree with the right, that is I'm pro-death penalty.

Ironically, the very far right and myself have parallel views concerning gov't control. We want a less intrusive gov't protecting everyday freedoms and are likely as disenchanted with Bush as I have been espec. with issues like wiretapping/Patriot Act.

I just differ in that I want freedom for all and they want freedom for themselves. Ask the gay marriage question, if you want proof of the difference.

Show me how a gay couple getting married stains my marriage, disrupts my life, or prevents me from doing something I would've done had it not been for their marriage?

I don't see cherry picking the bible as a valid reason, there isn't a person alive that has conducted their lives word by word from any testament.
