I have a question for you: when John McCain says "jump" do you say how high?
And if that were really the reason, wouldn't they say that instead of "she needs time with the voters"?
Tone it down. Weren't you just complaining about snarky people?
You can go ahead and ask me that about Obama. And the answer is "no."
Her son gets deployed next week. So if she's up in Alaska and spending time with him, that means she'll have plenty of time to actually do an interview -- after he leaves -- for a magazine that doesn't fall under the "celebrity journalism" banner. Right?
Remember, she hasn't actually given an interview. The campaign put her in seclusion during the week. If Obama decided to shut the media out because he wanted to spend his time on the trail kicking it with his daughters instead of answering the same questions over and over -- would that be OK?

VP's don't automatically agree with the candidate, so they'll be taking time to square her opinions with McCain's and phrase them in a way that doesn't come off false. They'll want to do that before she does any lengthy interviews.
If they have to prepare her to get their opinions in line, then that pretty much proves that she wasn't vetted. After Biden was named VP candidate, he hit the trail. He's been on the trail since the convention. And 15 days after being named VP candidate, he's going to be on "Meet the Press."
Does anyone think Sarah Palin's going to be on MTP next Sunday?
She's been on the trail already from what I've been watching.
VPs don't agree with their partners. It's not about vetting. Either they change their stated opinion, or they're coached on how to talk around it. Let's ask Biden why he now thinks Obama is ready. I wonder how closely Gore and Lieberman were aligned. Or Kerry and Edwards. Bush Sr. called Reagan's economic plan "voodoo economics" before he was his running mate.

Yes, and I went overboard. And I'm sorry, too. But this is the most transparent BS the McCain campaign has pulled since...last Friday when they picked her. I don't understand why a force field should be placed over her. I'm just tired of the Republicans bullying the media around. Watch now as they retreat and not make a fuss.

If one of his daughters was in what could be a life or death situation I would think there is something wrong with him if he didn't take time off from the campaign. Parent first, candidate second in those situations.

She was in St. Louis and the Gulf last Saturday. Then she was secluded until Wednesday night. Today she was out stumping, now it appears she's going back to Alaska. I don't think this past week counts as being out on the trail.
And it's not like they are going to be vetting her now...that's not what I'm saying. But Joe Biden didn't disappear to Delaware and refuse to speak to the media a week after he was picked.

I wish I could find a youtube clip of one of Will Ferrell's early Bush skits on SNL. There's one where he's playing with a ball of string while Cheney's talking to someone important.

McCain's people don't want her talking to the media without making sure she doesn't say something that goes against what McCain has said. I don't think that's a surprise or controversial, except to the media who obviously want to talk to her as soon as they can. She's thus far made two nationally televised speeches, one of which presumably took a couple days to prepare for. Biden's been doing this for a while, she's new to national politics. I don't think a week to get her feet under her is too much to ask. I'm certain she will be on Meet the Press or something like it before too long.
