Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin: The Thread
I am not on either side. So I will say something nice about both.
But:
I voted for McCain even though he wasn't the listed on the ballot. I cried at his concession speech and I think he is a good person.
I think Obama has the type of personality that could generate confidence in a country that isn't feeling very good right now.

I respect what McCain has done as a Senator. as a war hero, and believe that his best intentions (while I largely disagree with the thought process) are for the progression of America.planet pujolsian wrote:I think we should all say something nice about whichever side you oppose. I'll start. When the primaries started, I definitely thought McCain was the lesser of the evils and I loved his campaign finance reform position.

i do think mccain *could* be alright...but thats a big *could* for me...if he goes back to his maverick ways...but, frankly, i dont see much maverick in him anymore...Freed Roger wrote:Good idea. We have two decent candidates for President. IMO both guys are better than what their parties offered up in 2000 and 2004.planet pujolsian wrote:I think we should all say something nice about whichever side you oppose. I'll start. Talks of tax cuts etc are just campaign blubbering. The country is broke and can't afford it. Candidates are more moderate than portrayed. The main policy difference between these candidates is their views on the war. a lot of their rhetoric is just shoring up the base.
Whoever we get will be a huge improvement over the administration in there now.

Really? You think he picked Sarah Palin because he thought she would help with the progression of America more than anybody else?
I think he picked her (and changed his entire portfolio since 2000) because he wants to be President.

Neither side will be swayed, yet both think they can sway the other, resorting to petty insults when it doesn't work. They read between the lines of innocuous statements, find vindictiveness that may or not actually be there, then go on the defensive. The moonbattery and wingnuttery is ridiculous.
The trouble is these sorts of things aren't unique to CT or, at times, on here, when politics get discussed openly.
Indeed. That said, I remember when this board prided itself on being the polar opposite of CT, so even a mild comparison strikes me as significant.

Hey, you're breaking the rules. You can't critique someone's effort to cross party lines.Socnorb11 wrote:UK wrote:I respect what McCain has done as a Senator. as a war hero, and believe that his best intentions (while I largely disagree with the thought process) are for the progression of America.planet pujolsian wrote:I think we should all say something nice about whichever side you oppose. I posted this in the Site Support/Suggestions thread, for what ever it's worth.

Both candidates have shifted more right than each probably want to, both candidates have the country's best interest at heart.
Now, don't think I don't have issues with how McCain's team is meddling with troopergate or obviously saying "America, we think you're too stupid to see thru the lies by claiming thanks but no thanks on the bridge to nowhere!" when it's obvious she supported until Congress and not her unauthorized it. They also fail to see how she used that earmark money towards transportation including a road that goes right to that bridge to nowhere.
I think Obama has catered to moderates as far as the FISA bill, campaign finance, gay marriage etc. which as a supporter disappoints me greatly.

What 3 questions would you ask Sarah Palin if you were Charles Gibson?

To quote Larry the Cable guy(mercifully), it doesn't matter who you are, this is some funny stuff right here:
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/09/08 ... 8646.shtmlNot since the Democratic primary has Obama been this animated and wound up during a campaign event. His style of campaigning became a bit drab over the summer when he stayed mostly on message. But after Palin’s convention speech received rave reviews, Obama has shown that he is not ready to relinquish the spotlight so easily. His performance tonight looked like a page from his days of campaigning against Hillary Clinton.
“I mean, mother, governor, moose shooter?! I mean I think that’s cool, that’s cool stuff,” Obama said about Palin’s biography.
When discussing McCain’s energy plan, Obama poked fun at his line on drilling. “What were the Republicans hollerin’, ‘drill baby drill’? What kind of slogan is that?! They were getting all excited about drilling!”
He even found a way to make an answer to a question on civil liberties comical. While speaking about the importance of habeas corpus, Obama said, “We don’t always catch the right person. We may think this is Mohammed the terrorist, it might be Mohammed the cab driver. You may think it’s Barack the bomb thrower, but it might be Barack the guy running for president.”
