Jobs report shows 160,000 non-farm jobs lost in September, the worst monthly showing in 5 years. Also news out of California that the state needs credit to pay its bills (CA is the worlds 10th largest economy). The timing of today's decline is probably profit-taking after the runup to today's vote.heyzeus wrote:If the bill passed, why has the DOW gone from up 250 points earlier today to being down 30 now?

The [expletive] has hit Europe today. Russia's market was down 17% before they closed it. Many banks throughout Europe are being nationalized.
It's all but a certainty now, we're heading into global economic downturn. A lot of people are going to lose their houses and jobs. Almost all because Americans decided to take out loans they couldn't afford, and lenders decided to give loans that wouldn't get paid back.

The Economist noted how European banks had lent 1.46 euros for every euro in deposits. The comparable figure for US banks is 0.96:1.heyzeus wrote:The [expletive] has hit Europe today. Russia's market was down 17% before they closed it. Many banks throughout Europe are being nationalized.
