Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin

So about this Ayers thing - is there anyone voting for Obama who is troubled by it, or by Obama's accounting of their relationship? Just asking out of pure curiosity. It does seem true that Ayers hasn't really disavowed his past. He wasn't convicted of anything but he was part of a group that through it's actions could have or may have brought harm to other people.

Is it okay to work with people like that if it means good things get done? Do the ends justify the means? Or do most think we don't have a clear enough picture of how closely they worked, and what Obama knew (and when) about Ayers. Or do you think Ayers past isn't that bad to start with?

I'll echo what's been said - if you are going to tie Obama to Ayers (a guy I never heard of until a couple days ago) then is McCain tied to every mistake done by our military (bombing civilians) or misdeeds done by GWB and his admin's condoning of torture etc? I mean - there is no way McCain condones torture - but under this guilt by association, does he? Or Palin - Alaska has the highest per capita share of radicals and kooks in the country ( I don't know this at all really - but when you play loose with the facts, anything is game.)

Besides- the faithful base of the GOP seem to be abandoning this Ayers thing - and is turning their sights on Obama + ACORN. Maybe that poop will stick to the wall a little better.

The Ayers thing is a sad blemish on a good man - the blemish being on McCain. Its almost unbearable to see this happen to him. Only 4 years ago after the GOP's triumphant re-election of GWB, the party started to consolidate its power and started kicking around any dissenter among the ranks - McCain being the prime one. If the trend continues and McCain loses on Nov 4, McCain will be dropped like a hot pan and shunned by these same angry cheering masses that show at his rallies. Sad but inevitable. I hope Obama will offer the guy an olive branch, because McCain's people will have cast him out.

Being primarily a boxing fan, I liked the guy at one time, too.
But introducing someone like Sarah Palin onto the national stage should be a capital offense.

McCain deserves blame for this, it was his responsibility to project something more than his helter-skelter behavior over this financial crisis. He's also starting to cater to his base as far as wanting to go after Ayers/Wright while looking worse in the eyes of many independents more concerned about the economy. Watching some of those people in the audience at McCain's rally in WI was he doesn't need to do at this time. I want them to go after Ayers/Wright b/c it makes him look even weaker on the economy than he has already done which is nothing short of failure.

Did anybody see the clip from McCain's rally in Ohio yesterday? It was amazing. People in his own party are pissed at him. Literally, there were people at the support that had the mic and were basically yelling into it. "How are you losing this race? You need to stand up and let the people of this country know what is at stake. That's why we voted you for our representative."

I'll actually agree. You all seem to think McCain is attacking right now, and the information that is out there certainly is. But, McCain has been anything but a maverick and/or a strong-willed one at that. Not to say he's a putz or puny or anything like that, but that is exactly how he comes off, imo.

For example, when attacking Obama during the debate, he wouldn't get angry or fired up or anything.

Instead of: And, Barak Obama has taken large amounts of money from Freddie and Fannie and has their old CEO's that are largely responsible for this mess advising him as we speak. Yeah, he might be able to fix this mess because his advisors are the ones that caused it. Yeah, I was against regulation because I didn't know the scum of the earth would do such a horrible job of ripping people off etc etc etc (not saying that's true, but that's what republicans believe)

He says: My friends, Barak obama is a recipient of donations from Fannie and Freddi who are catalysts. *big cheesy fake smile* My friends, you have to vote for me *slouches over and creepily stares at someone in the audience*

If anything, when he got excited instead of angry or fired up he started breathing heavier and almost wheezing into the mic as he smiled....not exactly a show of strength.....and I think that's what the poeple in Ohio were pissed off at. That he just wouldn't stand up and say the things that they (Ohio repubs and probably a lot of other pubs across the nation) feel need to be said, right or wrong I won't comment on. But, it is interesting. He is trying to play this middle of the road strategy and it's certainly not winning over independents and it's pissing his own party off.

Anyway, my whole point of this post was to basically say it's over. McCain doesn't have his base backing him right now and the independents he has so desperately gone after aren't hearing what they want to from him.

I find it funny that many are ripping on McCain for tying Obama to Ayers, but much of Obama's campaign has been linking McCain to Bush. and actually 4 years ago there was a huge hope that Kerry would pick McCain as his running mate. There were rumors that Kerry actually asked him.

I find the connection more substantial between Bush and McCain (voting records in sync 90% of the time) and Obama and Ayers. But I do understand and acknowledge that McCain has differed from his party on very substantive issues and isn't a clone of Bush by any stretch.
