Reich couldn't see the bottom if he stood on a ladder. :)
Man, that's a low blow.

read that article, the first comment states that the fundmentals havent shown signs of recovery yet. I know fundmentals used to drive the market but how much do they matter anymore? Seems to me that speculators drive the market and fundmentals dont seem to matter much?

Whoaa -as of yesterday, our 401K is in the black with change in market value for 2009. one hundred and eleven dollars!

Now if it can hold until 3pm central - time to move about about 15% of the stock mutual funds into money market fund.

look what I caused last Friday. Now major market indexes down 3%+. Sorry folks.

You should have moved the money into a money market fund at DOW 14,000...at DOW 6,200-8,000 you should be in stocks, IMHO.

Unless you're trying to diversify (depending on your age)

I had an inkling to move it into money market back when it was a 14000, I really did -but just couldn't pull the trigger. at the time we were 95+% in growth -I was lucky enough to move some (I think about 20%) to stable funds around that time - thus our 401k only lost about 22-25% last year instead of the more typical 35-40%.

don't worry TFG - I am just diversifying/solidifying our base. I have a sense that the market is most likely to be flat over the course of 2-3 years.... but if anything dramatic happens in the next few years, my guess is it will be more downward drama than upward. We are eons from retirement, so we still have plenty percentage-wise in stocks so that if market goes up (and stays up) we'll still benefit.

This is all gambling guesses though.

I hear ya, I think you're doing what is right. When I started working about 5 years ago, I had about 50% safe and 50% moderate to risky. I still like the being risky when you're far from retirement, but the market seemed high to me. So when the bottom dropped out, I only lost around 10-15%. But now that the market supposedly bottomed out at 6200ish...I've started moving some of that back into stocks. Even if we retest those lows, the long terms still says up. I really have been dumping some cash into the market since 6200 hit. Roth IRAs and dollar cost averaging are a great idea with the market today.

Anyway, I'm about 35 years from retirement...here's hoping it's 25 :)
