UPDATE: Cards Acquire Holliday, page 26

Post by Cronos »

Righthanded, will be 31 next February, 3.123 years of service time(per COTS), and will only make a little more than $3 mil this year.

2009 Numbers:

191 ABs
38 RS
58 H
16 2B
12 HR
26 RBI
30 BB
43 K

.304 BA , .419 OBP, .576 SLG, .995 OPS

Thus far he appears to be having a career year, but a career line of .852 OPS would probably be better than anything Duncan or Ankiel could provide the rest of the year (not that that means they could move either of them in such a trade with the Natinals, but just go with it for now).

Might not take Wallace to get him.

Thoughts?

Willingham can also catch as well...He's a grinder...the type that fits on this team.

Better than Duncan and Ankiel IMO and shouldn't cost much to get him

Sorry, but when is Willingham a free agent?

He hasn't caught since 2006, or in other words Motte has stepped behind the plate as recently as he has.
Not a bad idea to try and get him though if he comes cheap though. Never would have thought this team was going to need OF help.

What about Aubrey Huff? He has an $8 mil salary that ends this year and it's reported he could be had for a fringe prospect. What's his defense like at 3rd?

I've read that Willingham has back problems that are scaring a lot of teams.

Not quite Ryan Braun at 3rd, but pretty close...

Willingham is a pretty poor defender, but still of course an upgrade over Dunkiel.

Cards Still Have Interest In Matt Holliday
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 23 at 10:00am CST]
Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle hears that the Cardinals might be readying themselves to part with prospect Brett Wallace for Matt Holliday. The Cardinals need a bat to protect Albert Pujols and Holliday has a .310/.416/.492 line since May 5th despite a well-documented drop in power. He's walked 41 times in that span and continues to play above average defense in left field.

Holliday makes $13.5MM this year and will likely be a Type A free agent after the season. Wallace is a top prospect, playing in the upper minors with an OPS over .800 in his first full season of pro ball. Washington outfielder Josh Willingham is an option for the Cards in case Holliday costs too much money and too many prospects.
please say no.. please say no..

No Mo, HALLADAY, not Holliday! That's who we'd give up Wallace for!
