having more that $1 mill cash involved, this deal won't be final until Selig approves, correct?

Looking at the schedule, the Cards are gonna be able to skip the 5th spot in the rotation like 6 times coming down the stretch. . that 5th spot shouldn't be that important.

Yea Piniero.
Boggs was pulled from his last start.
He made his start last night.

Right, but it's expected to be approved.

So he obviously won't be wearing #5 anymore. 15? 16? 25?

Some thoughts from NSBB:
I don't like this one bit.
Hendry had the money to finance that fire last year. Now, we need to hope it lights a fire under our players.

And if Troy Glaus returns that is going to be a scary team.

after a lot of though.. i really like this

holliday is going to benefit greatly by playing with albert
oakland had nothing in that lineup to protect him
he's always hit well at busch
the cards fans will love him
he's a huge upgrade over what we've been throwing out there lately..

i like it..

It might get painful with Wallace and Barton in the A's lineup down the stretch this year and for the next 5 years going forward...

Tentatively, yeah. It's an overpay if you break it down, but these deadline-ish deals always are. Holliday is the second-biggest upgrade available and it doesn't look like the biggest was a realistic possibility.

I also have mixed feelings on Wallace. We're relying on the scouting reports to project that he'll be better than his minor league numbers, but an awful lot of those scouting reports didn't project his power output to be all that great. If we're giving up the next Casey Kotchman, this is a great deal without any qualifications.
