I agree with you about the schools, I just think considering St. Louis' size, there's a good university representation. Being from Cincinnati, I can appreciate a midwest city having the likes of Wash U. and SLU rather than Xavier and UC (nothing wrong with those schools, they both were on my list of possible destinations, I just think Wash U. and SLU stack up much better).
In NYC, I had a hard time finding cheap food in Manhattan. Each time I've been there I've stayed in the Bronx, but being with the gf, we of course had to spend every hour of the day in Manhattan.
