Ryan, Schumaker, Pujols, Holliday, Ludwick, Molina, Derosa, and Rasmus seems pretty good to me, with all talents taken into consideration.


Try to improve at 2nd or one of Ludwick's/Rasmus' spot maybe, but that's much easier said than done with the payroll where it is and trying to get Holliday and Pujols signed.

To answer seriously: This team was constructed almost exactly as I'd prefer. A couple of superstars, a bunch of cheap players well above replacement-level, and then a few mid-range players, most of whom we don't have any long-term commitments to, filling out the lineup and staff. The one general principle I'd do differently is that I've always instinctively preferred power pitchers in the postseason (Ironically, the one pitcher we had who performed in the postseason is the one getting by with a below-average fastball).

My offseason plan would basically be to re-sign Iron Balls McGinty in LF, then bargain-shop until midseason again.

Pujols, Holiday, Ludwick, Wainwright, Carpenter are the only legit "good" to "great" players on this team.

In comparison, the Dodgers have about 5-6 hitters that are "good" to "great", about 1-2 pitchers that can be "good" to "great", and a deep bullpen.
